The process of recruiting a new vice-chancellor at Karlstad University is progressing. The recruitment group has unanimous decided to go ahead with professor Jerker Moodysson, the candidate assessed to have the highest merits in regards to the requirement profile.
He is Professor and his work focuses on the geography of innovation and the dynamics of regional economies.

Margareta Friman, Professor of Psychology at CTF, Service Research Center at Karlstad University, will be a new Pro-Vice-Chancellor at Karlstad University.

In her new assignment, Margareta Friman will lead, coordinate and develop education, research and collaboration within Karlstad University.

In mid-February, a unanimous university board decided to propose the appointment of Jerker Moodysson as new vice-chancellor of Karlstad University.

The government today followed the recommendation of the university board and appointed Professor Johan Sterte as Karlstad University’s vice-chancellor. Johan Sterte succeeds Åsa Bergenheim to the post on 1 September 2017.
Johan Sterte (57) has extensive experience as vice-chancellor. He was the vice-chancellor of Växjö University from 2009 to 2009, and since 2009 he has been vice-chancellor of Luleå Luleå University of Technology.

On 1 August, Jerker Moodysson took office as the new vice-chancellor of Karlstad University.
– It feels good to get started and I’m happy in my new role, he says.
What have the first days been like?
– There is, of course, a lot to take in at the start. New colleagues, new systems and routines. I have spent a lot of time talking to colleagues in the organisation, and I will continue to do so. My ambition is to get to know both colleagues and the organisation properly.

On 22 May, Acting Vice-Chancellor, Margareta Friman, signed an agreement that Karlstad University joins CoARA, the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment.
CoARA was established at the initiative of the European Commission together with Science Europe and the European University Association.

From the start of next year, the Swedish Defence University’s local unit in Karlstad will be co-located with Karlstad University.
– This enables deeper collaboration, which will create benefits for society at large, says Jerker Moodysson, vice-chancellor of Karlstad University.
– Together, our two universities can serve as an important meeting place from a total defense perspective, says Robert Egnell, vice-chancellor of the Swedish Defence University.

The Wallenberg Foundations are the charitable foundations established by members of the Wallenberg family. The three largest of these foundations are:
Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation (KAW)
Marianne and Marcus Wallenberg Foundation (MMW)
The Marcus and Amalia Wallenberg Foundation (MAW)
Funding is provided for research projects with high scientific potential. According to Foundation rules, the Vice-Chancellor or equivalent must approve the application.
The total number of programme applicants has increased by eight per cent for the autumn semester 2024. There is also a nine per cent increase in first choice applicants.
The Behavioural Science Programme is among the top ten degree programmes at Karlstad University, which is a newly established programme at the university. The programme attracted 873 applicants, of which 116 are first choice applicants.
– It’s very exciting that there’s such a big interest.
Generally speaking most funders do what they can to communicate what type of research they will support. Do your homework to try to understand if your idea is in line with what funders look for. For example if the funder is targeting fundamental research or applied research, particular discipline(s), societal challenge(s) or demands on partnerships.
Henrietta Huzell, director at CTF and lecturer of working life science at Karlstad University, will be the new vice dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Karlstad University.
- It is a fun assignment with big responsibility which I am looking forward to. Four fantastic years at CTF has given me the courage and desire to take on more responsibility. I am also glad that CTF’s former director, Patrik Larsson, is the dean.

Vice-chancellor Johan Sterte has made a new decision regarding teaching in the current pandemic. The decision is made to allow the University’s organisation to prepare for a gradual return to campus.
As a general rule, distance teaching and examination will continue in the autumn semester of 2021.

The theme of the 2023 Academic Celebration was passion, which was evident in both the morning event at Karlstad CCC and the afternoon ceremony in Aula Magna.
The Academic Celebration on Friday 20 October started at Karlstad CCC where five new professors presented their research in front of a full house in the hall Lerinsalen. After the short presentations, the moderator, Jan van Stam, professor of physical chemistry, held a talk on passion, this year’s theme.

Patricia Saenz Mendez came to Karlstad University in 2020, in the midst on the pandemic. A rather strange start, but as a newly appointed docent in chemistry, she feels that she is in exactly the right place.
- I completed my PhD in Uruguay and after that I ended up in Sweden. Before Karlstad University, I was a postdoc at KTH and Örebro University, as well as at University of Gothenburg for a short period, says Patricia Saenz Mendez.
Before the application can be sent to the funder, some internal procedures must be fulfilled. Form for external funded projects and the SUHF budget must be completed and signed in accordance with The Karlstad University Delegation of Authority.
