6 million SEK in programme support for CFBUPH The Centre for Research on Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CFBUPH) has been granted 6 million SEK in programme support from the FAS (The Swedish Council for Working Life and Social Research) to study the impacts of changed living conditions on child and adolescent mental health. Out of a total of 21 applications in the area of Children's and young people's early life conditions, 3 were approved.

Researchers from several European countries gathered for a two-day workshop at Karlstad University. The general theme was research on polymers and their application for organic solar cells and energy storage. – There are several purposes behind the workshop, says Jan van Stam, Professor of Physical Chemistry. Contact the Faculty Office early in the process to plan and discuss project needs of administrative support and availability of administrative staff. Preferably, this is done already when developing the proposal in order for the Faculty Office to meet the need in time. Also, some funders provide the possibility to apply for funding for administrative staff (see section about Project budget).

Karlstad University has been granted funding by the EU Commission to join EUNICE, an education and research collaboration with nine other European universities. The idea behind EUNICE is to facilitate student and staff exchanges, as well as creating conditions for close collaboration on research and partnerships with the surrounding community. The project will run over a period of four years and has been granted €14.4 million or 170 SEK .

Hedmark University of Applied Sciences (HUAS) visited Karlstad University (KAU) during two days, 9-10 June. HUAS has many projects together with KAU. HUAS is one of the project partners in the ongoing project, CriseIT, together with KAU.

The research project Correlation Attacks against Tor (CAT) investigates new attacks on the Tor anonymity network to make it more secure in the long term. The project is funded by the Swedish Internet Foundation (Internetstiftelsen) and runs from the autumn of 2018 to March 2019. Tor, an anonymity network with around 8 million daily users, is used to browse the Internet anonymously, circumvent censorship, and disseminate information anonymously.

What did you do there? – I was invited as keynote speaker at the International Research Symposium IRSSM 8th International Research Symposium in Service Management at Yonsei University. Monika Magnusson and other researchers from Information System will play essential roles in this project. Joint training is an important factor for a well-developed readiness to handle crises.

It is with great concern that we received the government’s hasty decision to shorten the term of external members of Swedish university boards from three years to 17 months. The government refers to the need for more security policy expertise in the boards as a result of the current security situation in the world. Of course, we all need to heighten our awareness and ensure we have the right competence in place to meet these new threats.
