Patricia Saenz Mendez came to Karlstad University in 2020, in the midst on the pandemic. A rather strange start, but as a newly appointed docent in chemistry, she feels that she is in exactly the right place.
- I completed my PhD in Uruguay and after that I ended up in Sweden. Before Karlstad University, I was a postdoc at KTH and Örebro University, as well as at University of Gothenburg for a short period, says Patricia Saenz Mendez.

The Faculty of Health, Science and Technology has long experience of international collaborative projects.
Julio Angulo was awarded his doctorate at Karlstad University in 2015 and is now doing research on user experience at Google. On 13 January he visited Karlstad University to give a lecture on his journey from Karlstad to Google to inspire students.

On Wednesday 13 May, the Swedish Defence University’s new premises at Karlstad University were inaugurated with speeches by the vice-chancellors and the county governor, as well as drum rolls by students from the Ingesund School of Music and a joint toast with non-alcoholic sparkling wine.

The challenge is to create a degree programme that addresses areas such as data-driven approach and digitalisation tools.
The Uddeholms International Programme Scholarship provides a tuition-fee reduction of 100 000 SEK for outstanding students from countries outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland who are admitted to an eligible bachelor’s or master’s programme at Karlstad University.
This scholarship is made possible through the generous support of Uddeholms AB. Uddeholms is a leading manufacturer of tool steel for industrial tools.
Stephen De Lisle, a biology researcher at Karlstad University, is one of the four recipients of the Swedish Foundations Starting Grant (SFSG), an initiative coordinated by seven research financiers to support outstanding researchers at Swedish academic institutions.
The number of first choice applicants to the law programme at Karlstad University has increased by 13 percent, compared to spring last year.

This scholarship is made possible through the generous support of Erna Gruppen. Erna Gruppen is a leading Swedish company within local media and distribution and logistics, as well as property management.
After a year of planning, the Equadiff 2024 mathematics conference is fast approaching. Almost 500 mathematicians from around the world are expected to visit Karlstad and the university.
The conference will take place from June 10-14, featuring participants from countries such as Japan, USA, Brasil and France and will include over 200 talks and lectures.
It has now been decided which innovators will represent Värmland at the national SKAPA Award ceremony in Stockholm in November. Birgitta Persdotter, a researcher in social work and creator of Vaves®, has been named the winner of the 2026 SKAPA Award Värmland.
