Three projects at Karlstad University are the recipients of EU funds to a sum of 21 million SEK. The decision was made by the North Mid-Sweden Structural Fund Partnership on 15 December 2016.
”We are very pleased with this decision of the North Mid-Sweden Structural Fund Partnership. The funds will contribute to strengthening research at the university and the continued development of Värmland,” says Åsa Bergenheim, vice chancellor.
The industrial graduate school EXACT at Karlstad University will continue its work, despite the planned expansion EXACT+ not receiving funding in the next stage. At the end of May, the Knowledge Foundation announced that the initiative would not be granted funding for 2026.

The strategic review of the university’s degree programmes continues. Among other things, it will be a standing item on the agenda at this year’s four dialogues where the management teams of the teacher education board and the faculties meet with the vice-chancellor.

The EU-funded project PIONEERS-6G – Platform and Device Innovations for Energy-Efficient, Resilient, and Secure 6G IoT Systems, coordinated by Karlstad University with partners from six countries, aims to develop the mobile networks of the future with a focus on Internet of Things (IoT) services and applications.
6G is the sixth generation of mobile networks and the next step in the evolution of wireless communication.

The Knowledge Foundation (KK-stiftelsen) is granting funding to the research profile Infinity Fiber at Karlstad University. The aim is to significantly increase the value of Swedish forest raw materials by extending fibre lifespans from today’s 2–3 uses to more than 20.
