During a six month period Karlstad University will be developing a strategy for web-based distance learning at advanced levels. Training courses will be developed in partnership with industry and various community stakeholders, and are based on research conducted at some of the University’s excellent and strong research groups.

The International research project NEAT (“A New, Evolutive API and Transport-Layer Architecture for the Internet”) has an ambitious plan to develop a new Internet transport system with an easy-to-use API (Application Programming Interface) for application developers.
The university board
A chairperson and members representing the private sector, public organisations, and academia are appointed by the government. The board also includes members appointed by Karlstad Student Union as well as representatives of the university’s teaching staff.
Karlstad University wants to attract more students from outside Europe.
"We believe that having students from different countries will lead to higher quality education and better dynamics both on campus and in the classroom," says Pro-Vice-Chancellor Patrik Larsson.

In January 2018 Karlstad university launched their first two international on-line based top education courses, developed within a project financed by the KK Foundation. Now, the university has been granted further means to develop more such courses.

In the autumn, several research funding bodies announce their decisions. So far, eight applications from researchers at Karlstad University have been granted a total of close to SEK 36 million.
The Swedish Research Council – Sweden’s largest governmental research funding body – has granted funds to the educational science project “Generationsmöten på svenska folkhögskolan: relationer och lärande för livet”.

You can find more detailed information about the scholarships and how to apply on the page of each scholarship. The application period is 1 - 31 March. If no one is awarded a specific scholarship during the spring semester it may be announced again in October.

ORIENTATION DAYS FOR ALL INCOMING INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS BEFORE THE SEMESTER STARTSAll incoming international students, both exchange and international programme students, are welcome to start the semester with the orientation days at Karlstad University one week before the semester starts. During these days, you will receive important practical information about studying at Karlstad University and also information about the Swedish society.
Karlstad University has been granted funding by the EU Commission to join EUNICE, an education and research collaboration with nine other European universities. The idea behind EUNICE is to facilitate student and staff exchanges, as well as creating conditions for close collaboration on research and partnerships with the surrounding community. The project will run over a period of four years and has been granted €14.4 million or 170 SEK .

Hedmark University of Applied Sciences (HUAS) visited Karlstad University (KAU) during two days, 9-10 June. HUAS has many projects together with KAU. HUAS is one of the project partners in the ongoing project, CriseIT, together with KAU.
