SEK 36 million awarded to Karlstad University researchers
2025-11-10In the autumn, several research funding bodies announce their decisions. So far, eight applications from researchers at Karlstad University have been granted a total of close to SEK 36 million.
The Swedish Research Council – Sweden’s largest governmental research funding body – has granted funds to the educational science project “Generationsmöten på svenska folkhögskolan: relationer och lärande för livet”. The project is led by Satu Heikkinen, docent in sociology at the Department of Social and Psychological Studies. It has been granted funding of SEK 3,876,870.
Another project that has received educational science research funding from the Swedish Research Council is “Skola på försök: 120 år av att utpröva och sprida kunskap om framtidens undervisning.” The project is led by Johan Samuelsson, professor of history at the Department of Political, Historical, Religious and Cultural Studies. It has been granted funding of SEK 5,130,201.
The Swedish Research Council has also granted funds to a research project in the humanities and social sciences. The project “Läsningar av Nairobis formella och informella litterära fält bortom motsättningen mellan när/fjärran” has been granted SEK 4,542,000. The lead researcher is Nicklas Hållén, senior lecturer in English at the Department of Language, Literature and Intercultural Studies.
Science and technology
The Swedish Research Council has also awarded funding to a research project in science and technology at Karlstad University. The project “Sexuellt antagonistiskt urval och antagonistisk pleiotropi i flugor och människor”, led by Edward Morrow, senior lecturer at the Department of Environmental and Life Sciences, has been granted SEK 4,435,000.
In addition, the research council Formas has granted SEK 3,989,133 in funding to the project “Delning av fiskräknardata för ekosystemsförvaltare”. The project is led by Olle Calles, professor of biology at the Department of Environmental and Life Sciences.
Formas has also granted SEK 3,999,264 in funding to the project “Intressentdriven ekologisk modellering för miljöbedömningar i vattenkraftsreglerade älvar”. The project is led by John Piccolo, professor of biology at the Department of Environmental and Life Sciences.
Health, working life and welfare
Forte, the Swedish Research Council for Health, Working Life and Welfare, has granted funding to two research projects at Karlstad University.
The project “Internationell adoption och psykisk hälsa. Att förstå och motverka självmord bland utlandsadopterade”, led by Tobias Hübinette, docent in intercultural education and senior lecturer in intercultural studies at the at the Department of Language, Literature and Intercultural Studies, has been awarded SEK 4,931,000.
Forte has also granted funding to the project “En samproducerad intervention för ökad fysisk aktivitet bland inaktiva barn – Interventionen 'EASY' (Exploring Alternative movements my StYle)”. The project is led by Johan Högman, docent in sports science at the Department of Educational Studies. It has been awarded funding of SEK 4,918,000.
More decisions to be announced
Further applications from researchers at Karlstad University are awaiting decisions from research funders. Decisions on these applications are expected by early December at the latest.
