How to get to Karlstad University
Whether you're flying into Stockholm, Gothenburg, Oslo, or even Copenhagen, you’ll find good connections to Karlstad by train, bus, or domestic flight. Karlstad University’s main campus is located just a few kilometers east of the city center. The easiest way to get here is by bus or bike, but you can also take the train or travel by car. We also have a second campus in Arvika, home to the Ingesund School of Music.

GETTING TO SWEDEN
Getting to Karlstad is easier than you might think! Whether you fly into Stockholm, Gothenburg, Oslo, or even Copenhagen, there are convenient connections to Karlstad by train, bus, or domestic flight.
Here are a few options to consider:
- From Stockholm Arlanda Airport: Take an express train to Stockholm Central, then transfer to a direct train to Karlstad (approx. 3 hours). You can also take a long-distance bus directly from the airport.
- From Oslo Airport: Buses and trains are available to Karlstad (approx. 3–4 hours).
- From Gothenburg Airport: Trains and buses take about 3 hours to reach Karlstad.
- From Copenhagen Airport: You can fly directly to Karlstad Airport.

BY BUS
Several buses stop at the University. Bus 1 is an express bus from the city center and on weekdays, it departs every ten minutes for most of the day. Buses 2, 3, and 52 also stop at the University, but take longer to get there.
Several county buses stop at the university and serve as shuttle buses for those who live outside Karlstad. You can also get to and from Karlstad with Swebus Express or GoByBus. Some of the lines stop at the university.

BY BIKE
Taking a bike to get to campus is very easy. There are five main cycle paths in Karlstad that connect the city center with the surrounding neighborhoods. The red lane will take you to Kronoparken, where the campus is located. It's a 5,5 km ride from the city center.

BY TRAIN
Several trains (Värmlandstrafik) serve the stop Välsviken, just south of the University. From there, bus 53 will take you straight to campus. From Karlstad Central Station, it's easiest to get to campus on Bus 1 from the city center.
GETTING TO CAMPUS ARVIKA
Ingesund School of Music is located at Kyrkviken, just outside Arvika. It's easy to get to Arvika by train. Värmlandstrafik make several Karlstad–Arvika trips per day. If you are traveling from farther away, the Stockholm–Oslo line (SJ) stops in Arvika. From Arvika train station, buses depart regularly for Kyrkviken (Värmlandstrafik).
