Step 2: The Wallenberg Foundations
The Wallenberg Foundations are the charitable foundations established by members of the Wallenberg family. The three largest of these foundations are:
Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation (KAW)
Marianne and Marcus Wallenberg Foundation (MMW)
The Marcus and Amalia Wallenberg Foundation (MAW)
Funding is provided for research projects with high scientific potential. According to Foundation rules, the Vice-Chancellor or equivalent must approve the application. A letter of support signed by the Vice-Chancellor (or the person designated by the Vice-Chancellor to represent her or him) must be attached to the application.
The Vice-Chancellor must certify that the project application has undergone internal prioritisation and that faculty resources will be made available to the researcher(s), in cases where such resources are accounted for in the submitted budget. Furthermore, the Vice-Chancellor must certify that indirect costs beyond those approved by the Foundation will be covered by the university and that indirect project costs will be accounted for in accordance with the established model.
In order to meet these criteria, a declaration of interest has to be submitted to the Grants and Innovation Office two months before the deadline of the call.
A declaration of interest must consist:
1. A summary of the research plan, an explanation of the value the project would bring to Karlstad University. (max 1 A4 page).
2. CV´s of the applicant´s.
After the internal deadline
The GIO will contact the Deans to inform them of the declarations of interest received, and decisions are made as to which researchers can be put forward. The GIO will give the information to the project leader. Before an application can be submitted, the budget must be approved by the Dean and signed off by the Vice-Chancellor.
