As part of the law programme at Karlstad Business School, students get to experience a mock trial at Värmland District Court in Karlstad. On Friday 10 March, students participated in a mock trial in Karlstad as part of the course Methods in Tax Law. Four groups represented the parties – the Swedish Tax Agency and the person charged with tax fraud. The chief judge, Ulrika Melin, welcomed the students in the court waiting room.

On the same day, two years ago, the World Health Organisation (WHO) announced that COVID-19 could be characterized as a pandemic. These two crises are emblematic of how natural hazards and related disasters continue to pose a major threat to societies.

The teacher and musician Georg Gulyás teaches guitar, chamber music, and guitar methodology at the Ingesund School of Music. After his promotion, he can now call himself a professor. Georg Gulyás was born in Säffle, and his Hungarian father worked at the city’s library while his Finnish mother worked with the church’s children’s hours. His basic qualification in classical guitar is from the Malmö Academy of Music.

Johan Tielman was born and raised in Linköping and grew up in a family with a keen interest in sports. His father was self-employed and his mother worked as a teacher. His lifelong interest in nature was sparked by visits to his grandparents in the Santa Anna archipelago. A longing to understand and learn more about aquatic life determined his academic direction.

Doctoral programme in English at Karlstad University. PhD studies in English may be pursued with a specialisation in linguistics or literature, and admitted PhD candidates have the opportunity to design their dissertation projects within either of these subject areas. Thirteen PhD degrees have been awarded since 1999, when English was approved as a doctoral discipline. The PhD programme in English is largely designed individually.

The Holidays are approaching, and another research year is coming to an end. When I look back at 2018 I feel very proud. During the year, we had five PhD defenses, which is eight in total if we also count 2017. It is a clear indication that CTF is an academic environment to count on. We have hosted several events, for example the Service-Dominant Logic Day, and the conferences: Nordic Relationship Dynamics and Service Convention Sweden 2018.
