These are questions that Anna Forssberg and Anna Linzie try to answer in their research. Anna Forssberg is a docent in Comparative Literature and Anna Linzie is a senior lecturer in English at Karlstad University.

Karlstad Business School has been given greenlight to proceed in the process for an accreditation by the Accreditation Committee at the AACSB. The work now continues towards building a robust and sustainable quality control system as a support for a continuous development of the school. Just over two years ago, AACSB granted the Business School's request to start a process towards accreditation. It was the start of a quality development work for the entire department.

We have an increasing awareness regarding our environment. According to the United Nations panel for assessing the science related to climate change (IPCC), global warming needs to be reduced by 1.5 degrees, which requires substantial changes of organisational and individual behaviour. Currently, 1.3 billion tons of food – the equivalent of 30 percent of the world’s agricultural production – is thrown away.

It is the time of the year when we consume in abundance and throw away more food than ever- at the same time as we know that food waste has a negative impact on our climate and what we choose to eat and how we handle the food matters. More climate neutral e-commerce in rural areas is the focus of a new research project at the Service Research Center (CTF) at Karlstad University starting this autumn. Packaging systems, returns management and delivery locations are some of the issues addressed. E-commerce is a complex societal challenge. Turning e-commerce into a sustainable system requires a comprehensive system change where innovation and knowledge development are crucial.

In November, three new distance courses with focus on business models, servitization and value creation through service will start. They are developed for professionals and are given by CTF, Service Research Center at Karlstad University. The five credit courses are developed to suit professionals where work and studies can be combined. They will run part-time and are free of charge. The course participants will take part of theoretical and practical knowledge.

Welcome to the 6th NoRSA-conference! 9 - 10th of March 2017 in Karlstad, Sweden Regions appear as more or less stable entities located at fluctuating spatioal levels or intersections of time and space in material, digital and immaterial terms. In general regions are identified, constructed and legitimized through for instance accessibility, administration, culture, heritage, economy, management, nature and natural resources, physical geography and politics.
Karlstad University strives to contribute to sustainable development. Environmental thinking must permeate all our activities. We have therefore introduced an environmental management system and annual environmental goals. These goals include taking environmental aspects into account in all education and research, making environment-friendly purchases and journeys, reducing the amount of paper and chemicals used and training the staff in environmental issues.

Swedish schools often receive criticism for failing to provide optimal stimulation for pupils who have no problem achieving the learning objectives. There is a need for in-depth knowledge about gifted pupils and the government therefore recently tasked the National Agency for Education with mapping out needs and developing initiatives for the education of gifted pupils.
