Rose (Research on Subject-specific Education) is a multidisciplinary research environment with a special interest in subject-specific – learning and teaching in subjects. It includes how the content of teaching is selected and how different teaching methods affect and shape the subject content, from primary school to higher education. The focus is on what happens in the classroom, and on the interaction between teachers and students in the learning process.

Anna-Britt Coe was born in Massachusetts, USA, to a Swedish mother and an American father. She has lived in Washington DC, Lima in Peru and Umeå/Nordmaling and studied sociology at undergraduate and postgraduate level at American University, Washington DC, and completed her PhD at Umeå University.

Annika Rudman was born and raised in Borås, but has family ties to Värmland as her father and grandparents come from Höljes in northern Värmland. She has a law degree and a master’s degree in human rights from Lund University. After completing her studies in Lund, she moved to Gothenburg where she completed her PhD at the School of Global Studies with a thesis on women’s property rights in southern Africa.

Anders Lind grew up in Västertorp, a suburban part of Stockholm. His great interest in bird watching resulted in him choosing to specialise in biology in upper secondary school, from which he graduated in 1965. After graduation, he enrolled in university studies but immediately started working as a substitute teacher in a lower secondary school in Västertorp, teaching biology and geography.

CTF, Service Research Center at Karlstad University, are expanding their range of flexible courses for professionals. Registration is now open for courses in digitalisation, customer journey and idea management, two of which are offered for the first time. The courses will start at the end of January and registration is open until 18 January. Registration is now open for the first courses of the spring term aimed at working professionals.

However, it has been shown that current standard congestion control algorithms can cause long delays in mobile networks due to over-allocation of buffers. In his thesis, Habtegebreil Kassaye Haile has investigated the performance of two possible solutions to this problem. The Internet is constantly evolving.

Ali Mohammadi has been involved in research on sustainability assessment of bio-based systems since he began his PhD. During his doctoral project at the University of New England in Australia, he studied economic and environmental impacts of biochar and bioenergy production from agricultural biomass.

Karlstad University and Deutsche Telekom are collaborating on a project intended to improve the internet connection for users. The goal is for the technology to be incorporated into every mobile phone within five years. Mobile phones use 4G, 5G, and Wi-Fi to access the internet. The project called MultiAccess will tie them together in a flexible way and thus improve the connection.
