Welcome to a GlobeLife network webinar titled "Debunking Disaster Myths" on 22 March. The webinar is a collaboration between the Centre of Natural Hazards and Disaster Science and Karolinska Institutet.
Disasters seriously disrupt the functioning of societies and cause needs that overwhelm existing capacities. However, their perceived impacts and risks as well as the need of the affected population are often based on pre-conceived opinions and myths rather than facts.
This project addresses the future of work, and battles over this future, by studying a new type of media-enhanced, urban workplaces: so-called coworking spaces (CWS). In line with existing research, we recognize CWS as a growing global business that emerges at the nexus of key societal trends – notably, the gig economy, the sharing economy, and the platform economy – but also as powerful social trendsetters that are likely to predict tomorrow’s workplaces and urban spaces.

Comparative Literature in Karlstad has a focus on various forms of boundary-crossing in terms of theme, content and interdisciplinarity, for instance. Through traditional literary history studies students learn what borders the modern (1850–1950) and postmodern authors transgress.
Avit Bhowmik, Assistant Professor in Risk and Environmental Studies, who is going to attend COP28 in Dubai, which starts today, reflects on the SB meeting in Bonn.
The annual Conference of Parties (COP) 28 of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) that will be hosted by Dubai is knocking at the door. Almost everyone who keeps an eye on climate change policy at the global level is by now familiar with COPs.
My research is all about how gender-power orders affect construction of risks and how it appears in managing risks in countys and regions. In a bigger perspective, research is connected to climate changes and the complex risks that society manage and will need to manage. I also teach at the Bachelor's - and Masters Programme at Center for Societal Risk Research (CSR) at Karlstad University.

Gillian Rose is Professor of Human Geography at the University of Oxford and a Fellow of the British Academy. During the academic year 2018-2019 she is the new Ander Visiting Professor in Geomedia Studies at Karlstad University.
Karlstad University along with Samot, The Service and Market Oriented Transport Research Group, is the leading European institution on public transport research. These are findings from a new study where public transport research was surveyed.
The study shows that public transport research involve both disciplinary and interdisciplinary research and has increased in recent years. The biggest increase in this area occurs in the US and in China.
