CNDS-webinar on disaster myths
Welcome to a GlobeLife network webinar titled "Debunking Disaster Myths" on 22 March. The webinar is a collaboration between the Centre of Natural Hazards and Disaster Science and Karolinska Institutet.

Disasters seriously disrupt the functioning of societies and cause needs that overwhelm existing capacities. However, their perceived impacts and risks as well as the need of the affected population are often based on pre-conceived opinions and myths rather than facts. In this interdisciplinary webinar, a panel of disaster researchers from four scientific disciplines outlines some of the most common myths and argues with facts to debunk them.
Confirmed speakers:
- Johan von Schreeb, Centre for Research on Health Care in Disasters, Department of Global Public Health, Karolinska Institutet
- Giuliano Di Baldassarre, Centre of Natural Hazards and Disaster Science (CNDS), Department of Earth Sciences, Uppsala University
- Nina von Uexkull, Department of Economic History and International Relations, Stockholm University
The webinar is moderated by Margareta Wahlström, Swedish Red Cross, former Head of the United Nations’ Office for Disaster Risk Reduction
