Ground breaking research co-authored by Avit Bhowmik published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences presents six interventions that can rapidly transform societies for climate action.
Safely achieving the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement demands a worldwide radical transformation of societies to help bend the emission curve immediately and halve global emissions no later than 2030. But, this is not an easy task!
The purpose of the project is to provide knowledge of climate literacy based on empirical data to be used in school. The researchers have developed a theoretical model of what knowledge, abilities and attitudes constitute students’ climate literacy, hypotheses about what factors affect climate literacy, and how climate literacy can lead to a willingness to act in a more climate-friendly way.

The academic insignia hail from the Middle Ages, and include the doctor’s hat, doctor’s ring, and earlier also a book of privileges, which had disappeared from the ceremonies and had been replaced by the diploma. The handshake has symbolic value; it means ‘be greeted’, and the promotor also says these words during the act. The insignia are proof that a doctoral degree has been conferred.
