Why did both of you choose to study at Karlstad Business School?
– I think the biggest reason is that we’re born in Värmland, says Erik Steijner. Moving to Karlstad felt natural. We didn’t have any solid plans for life, so instead of applying for random jobs, we chose to study.
What were your expectations for the degree programme at Karlstad Business School? Did it live up to your expectations?
– Our original idea was to study IT, says Erik.
The Swedish Institute for Educational Research has granted funding to three projects at Karlstad University focusing on practice-oriented education research. The university also has a co-applicant involved in another project. The objective of the projects is improved teaching within the Swedish school system.
The researchers at Karlstad University who have been granted funding all have a particular interest in subject-specific education.

This digital seminar is part of the Geomedia Speaker Series, which explores global perspectives on media and urban transformations.
Absolent: Eric Matteusson, "My research is about cleaning air from industrial processes. The research focuses on two parts: filtration of carbon dioxide and filtration of oil mist. The purpose of the research on carbon dioxide is to evaluate the feasibility of separating carbon dioxide on an efficient way to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in conjunction with existing filtration of the air.
We educate responsible professionals and conduct research with high societal impact.
Karlstad Business School is actively working with quality development. One step in this work is that we have become accredited to AACSB.

Georgia Aitaki has analysed financial crises, striving for international attention and broken hearts in countries far from home.
With her doctoral thesis ”The Private life of a nation in crisis - A study on the politics in/of Greek television fiction”, Georgia Aitaki, senior lecturer in Media and Communication Studies at Karlstad University, examined the Greek TV industry and the mechanisms involving its producers, screenwriters and filmmakers.

Datafication and Migration
Digital technologies and datafied systems are increasingly used to surveil, control and manage migration. New automated systems from facial recognition to language detection have profoundly intensified and changed migration and border policies.
In-Between Spaces: Digital Media Geographies and Social Transformations in Small Towns (2017-2020)
This interdisciplinary research programme cuts across the three research tracks of Geomedia. The programme focuses on the manifold social consequences of post-industrialization, urbanization, mediatization and globalization that together shape the future of Swedish small towns.
History of Ideas concerns how our conception of the world and cultural performances have been formed and how they have influenced people throughout the ages. Study in this discipline provides a broad education and places many of today's current issues in a broader context. In the History of Ideas, one learns to think independently, through a dialogue with other people of other times and cultures.
This text is meant to provide support to students who process personal data as part of independent projects/degree projects/essays (called “independent projects” below), but all students will benefit from the information provided in Part 1.
Aim of the text
The European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and complementing Swedish legislation require that all work with personal data should be done transparently, correctly and securely.
Artist 1990: Record an album, book interviews, go on tour.
Artist 2023: Build a brand, get to know your target audience, release a song on digital platforms and make sure to keep the momentum going 24/7.
It doesn’t matter if the artist, the production, or the songs have a classic, vintage feel. Behind most of the active artists today, there is a whole digital ecosystem.

Originally from Boston, USA, Susan Cohen has lived in Sweden since 1988. After her 30-year career in engineering, she has shifted to a new path in freelance writing & editing (wordsatwork.net) and poetry making. Susan has published three books of poetry, When Expression Strikes Now (2013), Messenger (2014) and Life Spring (2021).
Climate change communication spans several disciplines, which in many cases have an insufficient understanding of the each other’s research traditions. Sol Agin has compiled the literature review Mapping the Field of Climate Change Communication 1993–2018.
- The purpose of our systematic literature review is to shed light on the field of environment and climate change communication, says Sol Agin, doctoral student in Media and Communication Studies.
