Many rivers have been impacted by hydropower developments. As a result many organisms can no longer move freely through watercourses to lakes and oceans. Naturalistic fish passages built to approximate natural streams enable most fish species to pass such obstacles.
Fish passages that approximate natural streams have often been shown to be better than technical fish passages since they allow more fish species to pass.

This international one-week course gathers PhD students in Earth-, Engineering- and Social sciences for an introduction to the dynamics and impacts of natural hazards (e.g., floods, droughts, wildfires and earthquakes) as well as disaster man- agement and social vulnerability under the umbrella of Disas- ter Risk Reduction (DRR).
Practical placement
Through the practical placement included in different courses in Civics, contacts are established with the schools which receive our students. In courses which include longer periods of practical placement, the cooperation with schools is enhanced through the visits and other personal contacts that are employed to follow and support the students’ development.

April 3 2025, 13-15Karlstad UniversityToday’s influencers wield pervasive social, cultural, political, and economic power through sustained visibility on their ‘native’ social media platforms and across a wide range of other contexts. This seminar explores how they navigate platform logics, assume popular forms of expertise, and communicate through strategies of authenticity and self-branding.
The first university level consists of undergraduate studies leading to a Bachelor’s degree in English with at least 90 ECTS credits in the subject (English I-III), including an independent degree project, 15 ECTS credits (usually referred to as C Essay).
Dr. Jakob Trischler, Postdoctoral researcher at CTF, currently collaborates with a team of social marketing researchers at Griffith Business School, Australia, to address a key challenge that many public sector organizations are facing: How to identify, recruit, and actively involve vulnerable users as ‘co-designers’ during the early stages of the service design process?

Organic semiconducting films on metal/semiconductor surfaces
The last few decades organic semiconductors, and thin films of these, have attracted attention as they have been proven to be viable alternatives for conventional semiconductors in several electronical applications. Organic thin films have been used to create light emitting diodes, field effect transistors, solar cells, photodetectors, organic lasers, chemical- and biological sensors.
