This international one-week course gathers PhD students in Earth-, Engineering- and Social sciences for an introduction to the dynamics and impacts of natural hazards (e.g., floods, droughts, wildfires and earthquakes) as well as disaster man- agement and social vulnerability under the umbrella of Disas- ter Risk Reduction (DRR).
Our research is driven by societal challenges with humans, organizations and society in focus.
We conduct research on value creation through service based on the needs of individuals and society. We want our research to make a difference and help develop people, organizations and the world around us.Through scientific research on services we develop new knowledge about value creating processes.

Global Mobilities (GM) is a crucial theme for Karlstad Centre for Gender Research (CGF) in recognition of this cutting edge aspect of contemporary research in gender studies. GM Is a central feature of modernity. Modernity has produced ever increasing movements of people, knowledge, technology, value systems and cultural and other material objects. This aspect of modernity produces both reveals and produces new tensions in power relations across the global and within national contexts.
Today the development is fast-paced. Many traditional industries and trades will disappear as today’s products and services are being replaced by new, innovative, cost-effective and customized solutions.

Organic semiconducting films on metal/semiconductor surfaces
The last few decades organic semiconductors, and thin films of these, have attracted attention as they have been proven to be viable alternatives for conventional semiconductors in several electronical applications. Organic thin films have been used to create light emitting diodes, field effect transistors, solar cells, photodetectors, organic lasers, chemical- and biological sensors.

We work within the paradigm of a circular forest based bioeconomy using a system analysis perspective.
The research group Water-Energy Nexus at Karlstad University contribute to a circular forest based bioeconomy by upgrading low-value sidestreams to raw materials, which are then used for production of useful materials and energy carriers.
Our vision
We research biomaterials using a systems perspective to enable resource efficiency.
