Annika Jonsson is an associate professor of sociology at the Department of Social and Psychological Studies, and active in REVA. With a background in interactionism, feminist theory, and the sociology of religion, she researches death and continuing bonds. She has published articles in journals such as Death Studies and Contemporary Social Science. Andreas: You have a new book in Swedish, Continuing Bonds: How People Live with Their Dead.

You have recently, together with Jakob Trischler, published a study that introduces a framework focusing on public services. Could you briefly tell us about the study and its findings? – The study builds on my previous research on services as value-creating practices. Simply put, it aims to create a reference framework to understand that services consist of concrete value-creating activities in which people actively participate.

This is the call in the fall of 2024 from the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SKR) to municipalities planning new preschools. The call highlights a future scenario for Swedish preschools based on a reduced birth rate over the next ten years.

The research is based on the need to view issues of social, financial, and environmentally sustainable development of society in relation to teaching and learning. The complex global issues that the researchers in ROSE are examining, are interdisciplinary and bring different forms of specialised knowledge of various subjects to the fore. For example, this could be about digitisation, Anthropocene* or migration.
Some topics in school are related to several school subjects due to their interdisciplinary character. These topics are often addressed in the general parts of the national curriculum and should thus be addressed by all teachers in their teaching in the different school subjects. Sustainable Development is one such topic that is given great attention in the Swedish curriculum.

The project is divided into 4 work packages that will address the following questions: WP1. When is the optimal time for mowing of the invasive species, i.e. when will vitality of the plant be affected most negatively by biomass removal? We hypothesise that this point in time occurs after a phase of rapid plant growth and development in spring when the amount of essential resources in aboveground biomass is highest, while belowground reserves are most depleted.
