In addition, lecturers conduct their own research within the framework of their own professional development. The research conducted within the subject is primarily focused on the theme of region building and subject education.

SweDigArch has been awarded funding from the Swedish Research Council to create a national infrastructure for digital archaeology. The new infrastructure is a collaborative venture between six Swedish universities, the National Heritage Board and National Historical Museums. SweDigArch is a unique initiative that will link data from research, archaeological excavations and digitized museum collections.

Organized uncertainty in elderly care: About quality, conditions for resistance, and staff's willingness to stayWe face a significant social policy challenge as the demand for elderly care is expected to increase sharply, while there is a shortage of trained workforce in elderly care. Studies have shown that working conditions in elderly care have deficiencies that worsen over time, associated with high sick leave and high staff turnover.
Feminist comics have come to play a prominent role in Swedish cultural debates, serving as political satire, social commentary and a medium for activism. The aim of the project is to examine the explosion of feminist comic art in Sweden, popularized by creators such as Liv Strömquist, Nina Hemmingsson, and Sara Granér, among many others.

E-Vote-ID is an international and annual meeting for electronic voting specialists from all over the world. This years conference was a great success with two keynotes and over 100 participants, included from as far as Fiji, Ecuador and Australia. Melanie Volkamer, Professor in Computer Science at Karlstad university was part of arranging this years conference which was arranged 18–21 October 2016 in Bregenz, Austria.

For the second year runnig, Karlstad hosted the Bioeconomy Day on March 21-22. Leading industry and organisations, key stakeholders and policy makers from Sweden and Norway gathered. Researchers from CRS, Karlstad University, were also among the participants. This year's Bioeconomy Day contained a mix of seminars, discussions and conversations between expertise from industry and politicians at all levels.

At the end of the spring term, Karlstad Student Union took the opportunity to surprise some members of the teaching staff that students wished to pay special tribute to. "Celebrate a teacher" was the name of the campaign running during the spring semester and on 19 June the result was announced on the student union Instagram. Individual students as well as societies had been invited to nominate candidates via videos published on the student union Instagram.

Digital examinations

Digital examinations are a part of a number of courses at Karlstad University. You will receive more information from teaching staff if your courses are examined digitally. Students complete digital exams on their own computers, or on computers borrowed for this purpose. As a student, you are responsible for preparing for writing a digital exam. For a short period, we will have 2 different systems in which we will do digital exams.
At Karlstad University the subject English can be studied at all university levels, and can be the main field of study for a Bachelor’s degree, a Master’ degree (60 or 120 ECTS credits) and a Doctor’s degree. English is also included or can be included in all the current teacher degrees.
