Library card / KAU card for students NEW STUDENTS When you obtain your KAU card, you can use that as a library card. The PIN you chose for your KAU card is the same that you must use to borrow or reserve books. Contact information is automatically collected from "My Kau" If you need to borrow before you have obtained your KAU card, you can turn to the Information desks in the library. You can get an account by showing a valid ID, and also your t-number if you are an exchange student.
On 8 October the fifth edition of the Karlstad Programming Contest took place. The event is organised by Computer Science at Karlstad University. A record number of teams participated and tried to solve difficult programming tasks. The Karlstad Programming Contest is a leg of the Nordic Collegiate Programming Contest (NCPC), which takes place simultaneously at 19 Nordic universities and university colleges.
Värmland has received stricter general guidelines and Karlstad University is adapting teaching and research accordingly. In line with this, all activities will as far as possible take place remotely. A vice-chancellor’s decision was made on Monday following the new stricter general guidelines for Värmland County from the Public Health Agency. Karlstad University is taking its responsibility to help reduce the spread of infection.
Raviv Gal does research that he hopes will contribute to healthier watercourses and increased biodiversity. Fewer blackflies, higher biodiversity, and slower decomposition – these are some of the unexpected effects that freshwater pearl mussels have on their surroundings in the stream. Raviv Gal recently defended his PhD in biology at Karlstad University. The freshwater pearl mussel is one of Sweden's longest-living animals – some individuals can live up to 280 years.
The graduate school offers doctoral positions in various subjects and is held together by joint courses and seminars and focuses on practice based research. It aims to develop knowledge of how different content in specific school subjects is transformed in teaching. The Graduate School is a collaboration between Karlstad University, Halmstad University and University West.

Geomedia Speaker Series

Geomedia Speaker Series is a series of lectures and workshops focusing on the field of geomedia studies, i.e., the intersection of media and communication studies and human geography. Internationally leading researchers from different disciplines are invited to give an open lecture and participate in a thematic workshop with members of the Geomedia centre, and other interested parties.
Solar cell research at Karlstad University has been granted further funding from the Swedish National Space Agency, SNSA. Later this year, the research group in chemistry and materials physics will carry out experiments under microgravity conditions on parabolic flights in Bordeaux, France.
A new research project has been launched to improve production efficiency and reduce resource consumption within the forestry industry. – Sustainability is a central focus of the project, which aims to decrease energy and resource usage in the forestry sector, says Björn Sjöstrand, Associate Professor in Chemical Engineering.
