Project description
The Swedish preschool is in a long-standing change from content-based focus to subject didactic teaching and learning environments, from children’s development in groups to a greater focus on children’s individual learning and development. Not least, new forms of distribution, responsibility and management of the work with the children have been implemented.
Digitalisation has proven to be an effective way to reduce the number of errors in the production stage. The new technology has mainly been used in, for example, the car manufacturing industry. In a new project, researchers at Karlstad University are looking at the really heavy metal industry where manual work is still common.
Forging processes in the heavy metal industry consist of many manual processes where an error may result in costly stops in production.

Researchers at Karlstad University, Uppsala University and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York have found that exposure to bisphenol F (BPF) during early pregnancy can be linked to poorer cognitive function in children at 7 years of age. BPF has replaced bisphenol A (BPA) in a wide range of products as the EU has banned BPA in products for children.

ABSTRACT
This lecture explores the concept of ‘rural’ through the lens of digital geography. It will begin with a larger discussion of rural and digital issues before turning to the example of bees.
The research project on society-centred industry 5.0 – headed by Jorge Solis – has been selected for the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences’ (IVA) 100 List of 2024. The theme of this year’s list is innovation through interdisciplinary research.
– I feel very honoured that our research is on this year’s 100 List, says Jorge Solis, associate professor in electrical engineering at Karlstad University.

The research on organic solar cells at Karlstad University takes another step forward, thanks to a research grant from the Swedish Research Council.
- We are going to study the molecular interactions between the electron donating and the electron accepting molecules, says Ellen Moons, Professor of Physics and leader for the research project.
The course focuses on how businesses and other organisations can learn from customer complaints, product flaws, and service failure, and make sure that these problems do not recur.

SSE Riga, a branch of the Stockholm School of Economics, is an international partner to the Business School at Karlstad University. Amos Friedman and Alexandra Mets, students at Karlstad Business School, were sent on a look out trip to Riga during the preparations ahead of the exchange agreement.
Alexandra Mets is in the International Business programme and is herself about to go on an exchange semester next spring.

Ali Mohammadi has been involved in research on sustainability assessment of bio-based systems since he began his PhD. During his doctoral project at the University of New England in Australia, he studied economic and environmental impacts of biochar and bioenergy production from agricultural biomass.

Björn Smith, tell us about your background
- I spent the most recent years completing a degree in primary education, school years 4–6. I have also been lecturing at Karlstad University - mainly administrative law and local government law as well as jurisprudence and EU law to some extent. I really enjoyed working as a teacher and learned a lot.

- I think International Bussiness is a great alternative. If you are interested in economy and enterprise and want to learn how organizations work International Bussiness is a great choice for you. The education caught my interest when I found out about the variety in courses. For example communication- and ethics courses, were other economy educations rather engage you in fewer subjects.

Courses are taught in Swedish and English, and offered as distance or on-campus courses, full-time or part-time. At Karlstad University, students can choose intercultural studies as the main field of study in a Degree of Bachelor of Arts.
