Patricia Saenz Mendez came to Karlstad University in 2020, in the midst on the pandemic. A rather strange start, but as a newly appointed docent in chemistry, she feels that she is in exactly the right place. - I completed my PhD in Uruguay and after that I ended up in Sweden. Before Karlstad University, I was a postdoc at KTH and Örebro University, as well as at University of Gothenburg for a short period, says Patricia Saenz Mendez.

The Swedish DOME research consortium held a meeting in Karlstad June 4-5, 2019, where Information System’s Bridget Kane, Karlstad Business School, acted as host. The purpose of the DOME consortium is to build knowledge about the implementation and use of eHealth services. Its research is based on studies of e-health projects, in particular in cooperation with the parties involved in the establishment of Online Patient Records in Sweden (“Journalen”).

A new study evaluated the association between early pregnancy exposure to eight PFAS compounds respectively and birth weight in 1,533 mother child pairs in the Swedish Environmental Longitudinal, Mother and child, Asthma and allergy (SELMA) study, specifically focusing on differences according to sex of the child. Researchers found significant associations between higher prenatal exposures for five different PFAS (PFOS, PFOA, PFNA, PFDA och PFUnDA) and lower birth weight
