National meeting in Karlstad on Development of online medical records and e-health services
2019-06-12The Swedish DOME research consortium held a meeting in Karlstad June 4-5, 2019, where Information System’s Bridget Kane, Karlstad Business School, acted as host.
The purpose of the DOME consortium is to build knowledge about the implementation and use of eHealth services. Its research is based on studies of e-health projects, in particular in cooperation with the parties involved in the establishment of Online Patient Records in Sweden (“Journalen”). DOME is a collaborative consortium between Karlstad University, Karolinska Institutet, the Royal Institute of Technology, University of Lund, University of Skövde, Uppsala University, and Örebro University.
At the Karlstad meeting, the participants spent an afternoon with ExperioLab and Nordic MedTest; both are nationally renowned local initiatives for quality in health service development and test of e-health systems. Magnus Bårdén from the IT-cluster Compare opened the afternoon with an overview of the new Digital Arena initiative in Värmland region. The representatives of ExperioLab and Nordic MedTest presented aims, methods and achievements. Their presentations were much appreciated and sparked much discussion about potential research collaboration.
A specific goal of the DOME research is to create a better basis for future introduction of eHealth services. The consortium therefore aims at developing recommendations for the introduction of new or improved e-health services in the healthcare system. At the Karlstad meeting, specific sessions were devoted to discussions about theories and frameworks to analyse data from the perspective of Patient Empowerment, led by Gunnar Klein from Örebro, and Information Horizons, led by Isto Huvila from Uppsala, as well as on Citizen Acceptance and Adoption, led by Maria Hägglund from Karolinska Institutet. Future research funding applications are planned.
During these days, Rose-Mharie Åhlfeldt, associate professor and pro-dean for the section of Information Technology at Skövde University, also made a seminar presentation at the Information Systems group at Karlstad Business School where she presented the DOME and research and education on Information Security at her university.
