Applying for a degree certificate
Online applications for degree certificates are done via Ladok.
You should apply for your degree at the university where you completed the most recent course that you want included in your degree. Make sure that all courses and grades that are to be included in your degree have been registered correctly in Ladok. Please contact the course administrator if any course results are missing.
DEGREE CERTIFICATE
Karlstad University only issues digital degree certificates since March 2018. You receive an e-mail notification that your degree certificate has been issued. You can then log into Ladok for students and retrieve your degree certificate, which you can then forward to employers and other educational institutions digitally. You can retrieve the certificate as many times as you like. The document is a PDF and contains an e-stamp. The e-stamp proves that it is a genuine document and only works if the certificate is opened and read digitally.
You who have a digital degree issued before 6 February 2024 had this sent to your digital mailbox via the service Mina meddelanden or by e-mail. Your document is a PDF and contains an e-signature. The e-signature proves that it is a genuine document and only works if the proof is opened and read digitally.
A digital degree certificate cannot be obtained for a degree that has already been issued in paper format.
A decision is normally made within eight weeks after receipt of a complete application form.
If you have any questions, please contact examen@kau.se

APPEALS
In accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, you have the right to appeal if your application for a degree certificate is rejected. Address your letter of appeal to the Higher Education Appeals Board, but send it to Karlstad University.
SHARING DEGREES
Once your degree has been issued, you have the opportunity to share information about your degree with any recipient (e.g. an employer).
If you are a student or alumnus who holds a degree you can log in to Ladok for students and retrieve a code that allows you to share information about your degree.
To share your Degree:
- Log in to Ladok for students and navigate to “Degrees and certificates”
- Select “Share certificate”
- Send the control code to your intended recipient(s)
By sharing the control code, you make it possible for the recipient (e.g. an employer) to access information about your degree, and the included courses. If you want to see what will be shared with the recipient, you can log in with the control code and your personal identity number. The code is valid for 6 months and can be used multiple times and for multiple recipients.
If you are a former student at Karlstad University and do not have a user account, you can create an eduID and log in to Ladok for students.
