Applying for a degree certificate
You should apply for your degree at the university where you completed the most recent course that you want included in your degree. Make sure that all courses and grades that are to be included in your degree have been registered correctly in Ladok. Please contact the course administrator if any course results are missing.
Karlstad University is connected to the service "Mina meddelanden". This means that we primarily send out the digital Degree Certificate to your digital mailbox.
With the service "Mina meddelanden" you can receive, read and collect your government mail digitally. The service is free of charge. To use the service you need a Swedish Social security number, e-identification, such as BankID and a digital mailbox approved for "Mina meddelanden".
You will find more information and can join the service here:
- Mina meddelanden (https://www.minameddelanden.se)
If you do not have the opportunity to join the service, your digital Degree Certificate will be sent to the e-mail address you included in your application. Please check your degree certificate carefully as soon as you receive the documents, as corrections have to be made as soon as possible.
A decision is normally made within eight weeks after receipt of a complete application form.
Please note that it is only possible to apply for a degree certificate via My KAU if you are applying for a first- or second-cycle degree under the 2007 regulations. All applications for third-cycle degrees must be submitted using the application form.
When you submit your degree application form, please attach:
- Swedish and English transcripts detailing the courses you have taken at other universities that you want to include in your degree;
- Any decisions relevant to your degree, as for example credit transfers, individual study plans or substituted courses.
In accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, you have the right to appeal if your application for a degree certificate is rejected. Address your letter of appeal to the Higher Education Appeals Board, but send it to Karlstad University.
Once your degree has been issued, you have the opportunity to share information about your degree with any recipient (e.g. an employer).
If you are a student or alumnus who holds a degree you can log in to Ladok for students and retrieve a code that allows you to share information about your degree.
To share your Degree:
- Log in to Ladok for students and navigate to “Degrees and certificates”
- Select “Share certificate”
- Send the control code to your intended recipient(s)
By sharing the control code, you make it possible for the recipient (e.g. an employer) to access information about your degree, and the included courses. If you want to see what will be shared with the recipient, you can log in with the control code and your personal identity number. The code is valid for 6 months and can be used multiple times and for multiple recipients.
If you are a former student at Karlstad University and do not have a user account, you can create an eduID and log in to Ladok for students.
