An international interdisciplinary conference organized by the research group for culture studies KuFo (Kulturvetenskapliga forskargruppen) in celebration of KuFo’s ten-year anniversary.
Computer Science researchers at Karlstad University received Best Paper award at the top ranked research conference ISD, Information Systems Development 2017. The paper concerns users’ perspectives on a cloud-based personal identity management and it is connected to the CREDENTIAL project which Karlstad University is involved.

Some are about innovation and new technological solutions, but equally important is to change rules and frameworks at the global, national and regional level. “Elite for the day”: The precarious, violent rhetorics of privilege
The once trademarked slogan “elite for the day” was a marketing strategy promising economy passengers a chance to sample life in the premium lane: upgrades, priority baggage tags, no-middle-seat and “a separate line for boarding the flight, complete with a blue carpet and gold stanchions”.[1] Such is the stuff of privilege, and such is the illusion of distinction.

The research group Samot, The Service and Market Oriented Transport Research Group at Karlstad University, has been commissioned to form an innovation cluster to coordinate and stimulate innovation, technology transfer, commercialization and dissemination of information on energy-efficient public transport.

Just over a year ago, the Next unit was established at the IT company CGI, where work is being done on emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence and machine learning. During a lunch lecture for IT students at Karlstad University one of the co-workers at CGI Next, Christer Enfors, tried to sort out the differences between these two concepts – which is what? Where are the boundaries between the two? What should they be used for?

Geomedia is a relatively new term that has been given only a few definitions so far (see, e.g., Thielmann, 2007, 2010; Lapenta, 2011, 2012; McQuire, 2016). What these definitions have in common is that they refer to geomedia as a particular technological condition.
Researchers at Karlstad University are investigating whether the experience of meeting oneself in Virtual Reality (VR) can be used to improve psychological treatments in the future.
We are looking for people (over 20 years of age) with depressive symptoms who do not meet the criteria for any serious psychiatric diagnosis.

Bridget Kane, PhD, has pursued research within Health Informatics and CSCW at Trinity College and St. James Hospital in Dublin. During the spring 2016 she will help students who write HCI theses in English. She will also contribute to the master course Models and Methods for Multimedia Development. She has a post-graduate diploma in Statistics and will assist in the research education during this spring.

The library and the Bibsam consortia has signed an read and publish agreement with Taylor & Francis for 2025-2027, which gives researchers at Karlstad University the possibility to publish open access in approximately 2,200 of Taylor & Francis hybrid journals without charges.
The NEAT project won the Best Demo Award at the IFIP Networking conference, in Stockholm (June 12-15, 2017). The Demo was presented by Zdravko Bozakov (Dell EMC) on behalf of all the authors.
The demo, titled "A NEAT framework for application-awareness in SDN environments", is joint work from KaU and Dell EMC illustrating how NEAT can be integrated in an SDN scenario.
