This year’s SNITS dinner at Karlstad University was more than fully booked, not surprisingly since employment in the IT industry was on the table – a mouth-watering dish which tempted both businesses and students. On 19 September, 130 students from the different IT study programmes at the university gathered to meet representatives from eleven local businesses in the IT industry.

Understanding the centrality of different experiences of racism has added to a transformation of the field of gender studies, in a variety of aspects: epistemologically, theoretically, methodologically and politically.

In Värmland, the new DigitalWell project will create an environment for innovation in which researchers, industry and the public sector collaborate to create new digital welfare services. The project DigitalWell Research has now commenced at Karlstad University.

Lars Sandberg, innovation manager at BillerudKorsnäs, talked about the company's work for increased sustainability and consideration to the environment when it comes to food packaging.

On June 10-13th about 200 researchers and practitioners from over 30 countries met at Karlstad University for QUIS13, The 13th International Research Symposium on Service Excellence in Management. During the three day symposium new research findings were presented and future research questions were discussed. One of the keynote speakers was Gary Bridge, Cisco Systems, USA.

Karlstad University is currently dealing with a situation that has received a lot of media attention. It is, of course, in the interest of the university to ensure a safe environment for our teachers and students, but any measure we take must comply with our regulations. In brief, the situation involves an online activist with an explicitly right-wing nationalist agenda who has been admitted to a course in intercultural studies with a focus on racism.

Basic criteria for exchange studiesIn order to eligible for a Karlstad University exchange place, administered by the International Office, students should:Have studied at least two semesters (of 30 ECTS each) at Karlstad University immediately before the start of the exchange periodAt the time of application, be registered as a Karlstad University student and be admitted to full-time studies (full-time study equates to 30 ECTS per semester)Have passed at least 75% of their courses.
