Three projects at Karlstad University are the recipients of EU funds to a sum of 21 million SEK. The decision was made by the North Mid-Sweden Structural Fund Partnership on 15 December 2016.

Our alumna Julia Bengtson from Borlänge has an extensive music education, having studied at Musikkonservatoriet Falun, exchange studies at the Norwegian Academy of Music, and not least a degree in Music Production at Ingesund School of Music. Currently, she is studying music at the Academy of Music and Drama in Gothenburg.

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think about the word ‘market’?
Usually, everybody will have an idea of what a market is and can give a specific meaning for the word. However, if you look closer, these meanings and the assumptions connected to it can be very different from one another. This is true for both the “everyday” and “academic” use of the word.

Science fiction and intercultural encounters (Participants: Maria Holmgren Troy, Andreas Jacobsson, Johan Wijkmark)

The aim of this project is to study interpersonal and interspecies encounters in science-fiction literature, film and television as intercultural encounters.
Karlstad University is currently dealing with a situation that has received a lot of media attention. It is, of course, in the interest of the university to ensure a safe environment for our teachers and students, but any measure we take must comply with our regulations.
In brief, the situation involves an online activist with an explicitly right-wing nationalist agenda who has been admitted to a course in intercultural studies with a focus on racism.
Basic criteria for exchange studiesIn order to eligible for a Karlstad University exchange place, administered by the International Office, students should:Have studied at least two semesters (of 30 ECTS each) at Karlstad University immediately before the start of the exchange periodAt the time of application, be registered as a Karlstad University student and be admitted to full-time studies (full-time study equates to 30 ECTS per semester)Have passed at least 75% of their courses.

The RSA Research Network on Regional Economic and Policy History (ReHi) invites you to the third workshop of the ReHi-network at Karlstad University. The theme is Historical Constructions of Regions and Regionalism.

STAFF EXCHANGEDoctoral students can apply for student exchange and practical placement within Erasmus+, and if they teach they can do teaching assignments in Erasmus+ as long as they fulfil the criteria for the programme. For third-cycle study, the criteria stipulate full-time study at the third-cycle level at an international institution and for the course of study to be part of a Karlstad University degree. Research is not included, but work to prepare your thesis is.

TRUEdig investigates how businesses that develop privacy-enhancing services also can increase users’ security and sense of empowerment.
“TRUEdig will be conducted in cooperation with Computer Science at Karlstad University, so two successful environments with extensive experience of involving external partners are working together,” says Per Kristensson, director of the Service Research Center (CTF) at Karlstad University.

DigitalWell Arena, a Värmland-based project that includes Computer Science at Karlstad University, is one of the winners of Vinnova’s Vinnväxt competition. Over 10 years, SEK 148 million will be invested in the development of digital welfare services.
