Autonomy and everyday travel: Dynamic public transport for reduced car-dependence
Public transportation plays an important role in a sustainable and equitable society. To accelerate the transition, new knowledge and research are needed. A new collaborative project is now being launched to develop new knowledge about dynamic public transportation and to understand the conditions for changing travel behavior.
The research is based on two pilot projects where dynamic public transportation (on-demand traffic) has been introduced in cities to understand if or when this type of solution can create accessibility and be an energy-efficient alternative. A particular focus is directed towards citizens' sense of autonomy and perceived accessibility in relation to new dynamic mobility solutions.
The research aims to increase knowledge about the extent to which dynamic public transportation affects users' perceived autonomy in everyday travel. The project contributes to increased knowledge about new flexible transport solutions and suggestions on how they can be further developed and become more effective in attracting and retaining new users.
The project 'Autonomy and everyday travel: Dynamic public transport for reduces car-dependence' is run by CTF and funded by Energimyndigheten during the years 2023-2025. It is carried out in collaboration with Region Värmland Public Transport Authority and the traffic operators responsible for the dynamic pilot projects in the County. Collaboration is also established with Västtrafik and their projects on Buss-On-Demand services.
