Thomas J. Scheff, one of Karlstad University’s first honorary doctors, has passed away. The university is saddened by the news of his passing and honors his memory.
Bengt Starrin, professor emeritus at Karlstad University, became acquainted with Thomas Scheff in the 1970s and remembers him fondly.

Today, the Internet underpins almost every aspect of our daily lives and it needs to provide efficient support for an increasing number of diverse applications.
In recent years, Karlstad University has invested in developing several flexible and international cutting-edge courses. During the spring semester of 2019, three new courses specifically aimed at professionals in the areas of service innovation and computer networking are offered.

Syftet med denna panel är att presentera och diskutera forskning om #metoo, främst i Sverige, ur ett tvärdisciplinärt perspektiv. Panelen samlar forskare från olika discipliner som data- och systemvetenskap, genusvetenskap, juridik, medie- och kommunikationsvetenskap, pedagogik, och statsvetenskap för att belysa hur #metoo-aktivismen i Sverige beskrivits och organiserats, samt vilka konsekvenser aktivismen haft för olika områden.

There are two degree pathways at master level: Master of Arts Degree 60 ECTS credits (one year) or 120 ECTS credits (two years). Both provide ample introduction to the basics of research through courses and academic writing opportunities. The 60-credit Master gives eligibility to doctoral studies at Karlstad University and at other universities in Sweden, while the 120-credit Master is a concluding professional education in comparative literature.
A large proportion of our research is funded by taxes. More and more research financers therefore demand to make results publicy accessible.
Several funding agencies require from researchers who receive funding that they publish open access.

This panel focuses on sexual and gendered resistances and claims for rights, self-definition and subject formation, both in the form of organised activism and lived experience in opposition to dominant norms.
We welcome Katrin Lättman who is our new Ph D Student in Psychology. She will conduct her Ph D Studies within Samot, The Service and Market Oriented Transport Research Group, where she will study experienced accessibility within public transport.
The university board
A chairperson and members representing the private sector, public organisations, and academia are appointed by the government. The board also includes members appointed by Karlstad Student Union as well as representatives of the university’s teaching staff.
Mental illness among young people in relation to socio-economic factors and physical activity was the topic at the "Meet a Researcher" lunch seminar at Karlstad University on September 24, 2019.
