Activists and researchers have voiced concerns about feminism turning too much to criminalisation. The term ‘carceral feminism’ was coined to describe how feminist calls for law reform have supported the law-and-order agenda in the U.S. At the same time, scholars have opposed this way of framing feminist engagement with law reform and instead argued for a more nuanced understanding.

Why did both of you choose to study at Karlstad Business School?
– I think the biggest reason is that we’re born in Värmland, says Erik Steijner. Moving to Karlstad felt natural. We didn’t have any solid plans for life, so instead of applying for random jobs, we chose to study.
What were your expectations for the degree programme at Karlstad Business School? Did it live up to your expectations?
– Our original idea was to study IT, says Erik.

For some, anonymity on the internet is a necessity. Researchers at Karlstad University, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, and Princeton University have discovered a new attack against the Tor anonymity network that uses the Domain Name System (DNS).
Tor is the world’s largest anonymity network with around two million daily users, and it is used to avoid surveillance and to circumvent censorship online.
At Media and Communication Studies (MKV) at Karlstad University, we conduct internationally prominent research with a particular focus on issues at the intersection of MKV and geography. These include the relationship between media and mobility, how media habits are both created and shaped by the spaces and places we move through, or how the local and the global interact in the contemporary digitalized media landscape.

Understanding Wider Research Impact
The precise definition of ‘wider research impact’ varies between funders, but, at its most basic level, it is the beneficial change which research creates in society beyond academia. This could be through the enhanced effectiveness of public services and policy, improving quality of life and health, or economic benefits.
