Students, alumni and representatives of local IT companies participated in the Karlstad Programming Contest, held on 6 October. At the end of the contest, team Bug Repellent, with Dan Wolff from Altran, Marcus Söder from Sogeti, and Niclas Fredriksson, computer science student at Karlstad University, emerged as winners with four solved tasks. "It was really fun to participate," says Marcus Söder from Sogeti.

The Holidays are approaching, and another research year is coming to an end. When I look back at 2018 I feel very proud. During the year, we had five PhD defenses, which is eight in total if we also count 2017. It is a clear indication that CTF is an academic environment to count on. We have hosted several events, for example the Service-Dominant Logic Day, and the conferences: Nordic Relationship Dynamics and Service Convention Sweden 2018.

Ecological sustainability, sleep robots and ageing are some of the topics included in the spring semester’s lunch seminars Meet a Researcher, which start on Wednesday 25 January. The seminars with researchers working at Karlstad University are held on Wednesdays once a month from January to May at the library learning lab. In a recently published CTF article, researchers Frida Skarin, Lars E. Olsson, Margareta Friman and Erik Wästlund address the factors that affect behavioral changes in public transport. The researchers have studied a two-week free public transportation-trial where people, who fulfilled certain criteria, were allowed to travel free of charge by public transport for two weeks.

New research at Karlstad University shows that "boyish" play behavior at the age of 7 can be linked to both behavioral problems and autistic traits. In a study that includes 718 children, researchers from Karlstad University and Uppsala University have identified clear connections between gender-role-related play and the development of behavioral challenges.
