We would propose a back-to-back panel, from the Global Gender Matters (GGM) Network, based at the Department of Gender Studies, Lund University. We are an interdisciplinary group of scholars, who work on multiple scopes and scales of empirical and theoretical frameworks on local and global issues through a gendered and feminist lens.

Patricia Saenz Mendez came to Karlstad University in 2020, in the midst on the pandemic. A rather strange start, but as a newly appointed docent in chemistry, she feels that she is in exactly the right place. - I completed my PhD in Uruguay and after that I ended up in Sweden. Before Karlstad University, I was a postdoc at KTH and Örebro University, as well as at University of Gothenburg for a short period, says Patricia Saenz Mendez.

May 11 Prof. Pettersson and Malin Wik visited Trinity College in Dublin. Ass. prof. Gavin Doherty, one of the principle investigator of WebWOZ, showed around and presented the utilization of WebWOZ in studies of interaction design. The Irish group has developed this system for Wizard-of-Oz prototyping for language-based applications and has also made a comparative study of such prototyping for other kinds of systems.

Rodney Clarke (Wollongong) presents a theorisation and design patterns for Internet-of-Things systems. Developments in technology enable the construction of cheap and accurate emergency sensors. These sensors can provide improved ground truth for models or quantitative evidence to check against trends in social media.

Gunnar Olsson, with a sterling background within the IT-business and a former Olympic medalist, has stepped into the academic world. Gunnar Olsson is originally from Timrå, a place north of Sundsvall that has a strong athletic tradition, not least in ice hockey with the men’s A-team of Timrå IK in the Swedish hockey league, SHL.

Old sewer pipes that break down may cause a lot of damage. In the worst case, leaking water erodes the soil and this may result in sinkholes. Now researchers at Karlstad University have created a mathematical model to calculate the corrosion of sewers. This is important in selecting materials for future sewer lines. Before creating a new type of sewer pipe that needs to function for decades, the user has to be able to obtain an estimate of the rate of corrosion.

The Christmas and New Year holidays are approaching and another busy year has gone by, now we are looking forward to a new and exciting year. In 2019, three of our researchers defended their doctoral dissertations and one licentiate thesis was presented. We have admitted no less than four new PhD students. In June, we hosted a fantastic conference, QUIS16, with around 250 international researchers.

Anders Gustafsson, Professor of Business Administration at CTF, Service Research Center at Karlstad University, is the first European to be awarded the prestigious assignment as President of AMA Academic Council. Anders Gustafsson has been appointed President-Elect Designate of the AMA Academic Council. In this role, he is a member of the council's Executive Committee and is in line to serve as the first council president from outside of North America.

We are happy to welcome Dr. Jakob Trischler to CTF. Jakob recently joined CTF, Service Research Center at Karlstad University, as a postdoctoral researcher. Originally from Austria, he completed his undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the Management Center Innsbruck. After moving to Australia, Jakob completed his PhD at Southern Cross University in 2015.
