We are happy to welcome Hugo Guyader to CTF. He will be working with professors Margareta Friman and Lars E Olsson in a research project on shared mobility, and will develop a survey for users of a Swedish ride sharing platform.

On October 21, CTF, Service Research Center at Karlstad University hosted the ninth annual scientific conference, gathering Swedish transport researchers around issues concerning the Swedish transport system. This year’s conference was held virtually via zoom.

E-Vote-ID is an international and annual meeting for electronic voting specialists from all over the world. This years conference was a great success with two keynotes and over 100 participants, included from as far as Fiji, Ecuador and Australia.
Melanie Volkamer, Professor in Computer Science at Karlstad university was part of arranging this years conference which was arranged 18–21 October 2016 in Bregenz, Austria.

Johan Netz is senior lecturer in Business Administration and an active researcher and teacher. On 1 July, he will take over as head of department at Karlstad Business School.

We welcome Jasper van Kuijk, Assistant professor of User-centered design & innovation at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. He will be a visiting researcher at CTF until next summer.
During his stay at CTF, he will be working on a popular scientific book on user-centered design, for which he got a grant from the Dutch organization for scientific funding.

- Thanks. It's great to be back. I'm here to prepare the new joint PhD position between CTF and Eawag. Thankfully, we have a very promising candidate and we now just want to manage the administrative challenges. In addition, I had a meeting with the company Metso yesterday, we discussed one of my former research topics on service business in China.

Kauresearch is the name of the university’s Instagram account where we share research information, news and glimpses of everyday life as a researcher - often with a fun twist. During the Nobel Week, 4-10 December, the university will draw on the special attention paid to science through a themed week, Kau Science Week.
The themed week will mainly appear on Kauresearch, but also on other platforms, such as Facebook and LinkedIn.

Patricia Saenz Mendez came to Karlstad University in 2020, in the midst on the pandemic. A rather strange start, but as a newly appointed docent in chemistry, she feels that she is in exactly the right place.
- I completed my PhD in Uruguay and after that I ended up in Sweden. Before Karlstad University, I was a postdoc at KTH and Örebro University, as well as at University of Gothenburg for a short period, says Patricia Saenz Mendez.

The aim of the project is to identify what constitutes epigenetic literacy and based on that develop and research the effects of a teaching module for the implementation of epigenetics in school biology.

The Christmas and New Year holidays are approaching and another busy year has gone by, now we are looking forward to a new and exciting year.
In 2019, three of our researchers defended their doctoral dissertations and one licentiate thesis was presented. We have admitted no less than four new PhD students. In June, we hosted a fantastic conference, QUIS16, with around 250 international researchers.
