Hello Klas and welcome to CTF and Karlstad University! Can you tell us about your background and your research?
– Thank you! I have a PhD from Technology Management and Economics at Chalmers University of Technology. For several years, I have also had various positions within the automotive industry as well as the space industry. In recent years I have worked at Volvo, with research and development work connected to products and services for the aftermarket.

- I got in contact with Karlstad Business School via a former colleague and research partner, Dr Sana Skandrani, Senior Lecturer at the Information Systems department in KBS.

Bestoun S. Ahmed Al-Beywanee is originally from Iraq and was born in 1982. He has a bachelor's degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering Science from 2004 and got a scholarship to finish his master's study at University Putra Malaysia 2007-2009.
After his master degree Bestoun S. Ahmed Al-Beywanee moved on to a Ph.D. fellowship position at the University of Science Malaysia (2009-2012) in the field of Software engineering.
– I want to shed light on the unseen – and the gaze that fails to see, says Markus Lundström, who conducts research on racism, nationalism and political action.
He is looking forward to contributing his expertise in historical sociology at Karlstad University, and dreams about creating an interdisciplinary forum for critical time studies.
Before coming to Karlstad University, Markus Lundström held a position at Mid Sweden University.
The project The pressured preschool? is a dissertation project of Maria Lennartsdotter's PhD-project, started in 2019. The dissertation project aims to sheds light on Swedish preschool as it is presented by more than 1000 preschool teachers and childcare minders during #pressatläge.
In international reports, the Swedish preschool has until recently been referred to in terms such as “outstanding” and “an international role model”.
The Christmas and New Year holidays are approaching and maybe some time off. Soon we can put another eventful and challenging year behind us and look forward to new ideas, exciting research and education.
When I look back and summarize the past year, there are several important achievements and notable results. First, and most important, are the efforts everyone has made in these challenging times.

At the start of summer, Henrik Rahm started his position as professor of Swedish language at Karlstad University.
– As a new professor of Swedish language, I hope to inspire new linguistic and multidisciplinary research projects and show that language expertise is important in many contexts, says Henrik Rahm.
Henrik Rahms is a linguist and holds a teaching degree in German, Swedish and Swedish as a second language.

Johnnie Lindgren, a teacher in physical education at Dallidenskolan in Kil, is Alum of the Year 2025 at Karlstad University. His teaching is based on an innovative approach and new ways of thinking, focusing on motivating his pupils to believe in their own abilities.
Johnnie Lindgren graduated as a teacher in Swedish and physical education in 2009 and feels honoured to receive the award as Alum of the Year.
– It’s incredibly exciting and honouring.
The activities of Geomedia are organized in three research tracks: (1) Mediatization of Space and Culture, (2) Spaces of News Production and Consumption and (3) Tourism and Mobility Studies. These tracks are not exclusive entities but serve as articulations of the Geomedia profile as a whole.

At the Department of Geography, Media and Communication you find the subject of Human Geography.
Human geography is the study of the interplay between people, places and the environment. The subject focuses on how we live, act and make sense of our world and our place in it. Humanity shapes the world, while being shaped by it. The interaction has multiple dimensions - political, economic and social.
Rapid height growth may positively influence fiber length in Swedish spruce wood. A case study investigated wood samples from 38-year-old of Norway spruces (Picea abies) at one of Sweden’s most naturally fertile forests.

2025-12-18 Karlstad-IS in national Games Development Research CentreTo bolster Sweden’s position in the global game industry, the University of Skövde, Malmö University, Blekinge Institute of Technology and Karlstad University will establish the Game Development Research Centre (GDRC). One important part in this work is to know how ideas for new services and products are evaluated, since the idea screening determine whether an idea is considered good, and whether it will continue its development as an innovation project.

During 2022, our new Geomedia research centre got off to a flying start. One way of summarizing our achievements, is to revisit what was written about Geomedia during the year. The below examples represent the interdisciplinary scope and quality of our research.

Carl Unander-Scharin was born in Stockholm in 1964 and graduated from Adolf Fredriks musikgymnasium in 1983. He continued his studies at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, where he studied church music, choir education and the supplementary teacher education.

This is a PhD project which focus on the implementation and application of Motivational interviewing in schools. Motivational interviewing (MI) is a collaborative communication style used to promote individuals’ own motivation and self-efficacy. In seeking to develop and strengthen teachers’ relational approaches and knowledge, and to support pupils’ motivation, interest in applying MI in schools has increased.
You are a professor of Marketing and Head of the Department of Marketing and the Institute for Marketing Management at Vienna University of Economics and business (WU Vienna). Can you tell us about your research?
– My primary areas of research are marketing, innovation, and consumer behavior. My ongoing research projects revolve around diverse topics such as creativity, groundedness, new product ideation, and sustainability.

Teachers across the Nordic countries are happy to include literature in their teaching. But what they want their pupils to learn from the literature differs between the countries. This is one of the findings of a doctoral thesis by Anna Nissen at Karlstad University.
