In the latest CTF blog, Charlotte Bäccman looks at the reactions to the Corona virus from a social psychological perspective.
Corona or COVID-19, is the virus that singlehandedly has isolated countries, crashed the world economy, and reduced pollution; and you have been forced to (re-)act in some way to its rampage. Today’s reality is contradictory, on one hand we are urged to extreme precautions before an imminent threat.

Preventive work in environments with large crowds can contribute to increased safety. In her dissertation, Thoa Thieu examines active-passive dynamics in pedestrians.
You have defended your dissertation with "Models for linked active-passive population dynamics: Mathematical analysis and simulation". Tell us about your research.
- The motivation of my research is based on studying models in the real life. There are several reasons for this.

In House 11, Erik Wästlund is just finishing a Zoom meeting on research funding. He is new as professor of psychology, but a familiar face in the university corridors.
– I started studying psychology here in 1996, he says.
– Back in those days it was mostly because I wanted to do something more besides my job working in a bar. But pretty soon my studies became more important than my work. Psychology was not a given choice.

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think about the word ‘market’?
Usually, everybody will have an idea of what a market is and can give a specific meaning for the word. However, if you look closer, these meanings and the assumptions connected to it can be very different from one another. This is true for both the “everyday” and “academic” use of the word.

Kristin Svärd shares some insights from her research; causes, effects, and solutions on how to prevent food waste.
It might seem like a problem that would be quite easy to solve, food waste. It easily resonates, and most people and organizations would probably agree with a “let’s stop throwing away food” mission. It is like my co-author puts it; No one wakes up in the morning thinking “today, I’m going to waste food”.

Resilience is a concept that in recent years has become established in the field of risk and safety, in science as well as practice.
To achieve better effects in healthcare, new technological innovations should be implemented alongside structural changes.
We often associate the word “innovation” with the roll-out of a new product, the success or failure of which is determined by market forces.

There is a preconceived notion that working-class boys and men in rural areas are less keen and less qualified readers than other groups. Through his research, Stig-Börje Asplund, newly appointed professor of educational work, paints a more nuanced picture.
Stig-Börje Asplund’s research is interdisciplinary and his research interests include boys and men in rural areas and their relationship to reading.
