Folk music is one of the three generic areas at Ingesund School of Music (MHI). We offer individual classes, practice time and the opportunity to play in ensembles. Students further have the option of studying abroad.
At MHI, folk music mainly refers to Swedish and Nordic folk music, but we also look to the rest of the world and sample music from other countries and cultures. We examine the folk music tradition of Värmland in depth.

Värmland’s mountains, forests and water
The building was inaugurated in 2002. Its architecture is intended to echo Värmland’s mountains, forests and water. The building materials that have been used include glass, stone, brick and wood.
Library, Aula Magna & main entrance
The building houses the Library, the University’s main entrance, Aula Magna, the Welcome Centre and Café Selma. Aula Magna has 600 seats, of which 200 is on a gallery.
Visitors are important to our research center and we constantly have visiting researchers who stay for shorter och longer periods of time.

The research project "Transnational single men. An ethnography about singleness among migrated men in the European Union" is a study led by Professor Ulf Mellström and Karlstad University.

This panel focuses on sexual and gendered resistances and claims for rights, self-definition and subject formation, both in the form of organised activism and lived experience in opposition to dominant norms.
The book "Stoppa matsvinnet! – en förpackad lösning" (unofficial translation: Stop Wasting Food — a Package Solution), written by Fredrik Wikström and Helén Williams, was named the winner in the Food, Climate and Environment category in the contest “Årets Svenska Måltidslitteratur 2022”.
Fredrik Wikström and Helén Williams are active at Service Research Center (CTF), as well as at the discipline of Energy and Environmental Technology at Karlstad University.
