Welcome Linda Bergkvist!

We welcome Linda Bergkvist, Ph. D in Information Systems, to our research team. She defended her thesis on outsourcing in the IT industry in June, and will now pursue her research at CTF. - Towards new challenges. That was the opening words in the preface of my dissertation. I remember my time as a graduate student as joyful and rewarding, and it is with a smile that I now continue my academic journey.

Understanding Wider Research Impact The precise definition of ‘wider research impact’ varies between funders, but, at its most basic level, it is the beneficial change which research creates in society beyond academia. This could be through the enhanced effectiveness of public services and policy, improving quality of life and health, or economic benefits.
“People’s experiences of different things and how it affects their behaviour have always interested me and are central within my research.” Martin Grimberg Löfgren grew up in Säffle and has stayed true to his hometown. After completing his studies at Karlstad University, he remained with the university and began his doctoral studies in Business Administration in 2002. He has since worked as a senior lecturer and became docent in 2011 and professor in 2021.

Together with Per Skålén and Per Kristensson, we are conducting interviews at Telenor and studying the institutional change processes that led to the emergence of Telenor Banka in Serbia.

The cocktail of man-made chemicals that we are exposed to daily is a health risk which current regulations and risk assessment overlook. This is the conclusion of the EU Horizon 2020 EDC-MixRisk project that is now being presented. We are exposed to a large number of man-made chemicals in our everyday life. This creates combinations of chemical mixtures, to which we are subjected during our whole lifespan.
A project that deals with the development of intelligent control systems for greenhouse lighting with a high proportion of local renewable energy. The project will develop an intelligent control system to optimize the operation of lighting systems in greenhouses with a high proportion of local renewable energy using adaptive control methods, Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms and optimization of built-in lighting control.

The climate is changing. This poses severe risks to humans, societies, and ecosystems on which human well-being depends. Sweden is one of the countries described as a frontrunner in meeting the challenges of climate change. In addition to reducing human influence on the climate, these challenges also include climate change adaptation. However, even Sweden’s responses to these challenges are described as deficient in both rankings and research.

The Cultural Practice of Immigrant Filmmaking (Swedish Research Council, 2013-2015) Researchers: John Sundholm, Karlstad University, Lars Gustaf Andersson, Lund University. Immigration to Sweden increased during the 1970s, and many of them were forced into exile. Some of them already were established filmmakers, others were amateurs, albeit with an interest in film. What united them was that they were all strangers in Sweden and that they tried to find their way in a new cultural situation.

Forests as resources and opportunities in regional development

The project aims to contribute to the strengthening of regional innovation systems in Värmland, in relation to the transition to a forest-based sustainable bioeconomy. The project explores what it means for a region to transit towards a bio-economy, and the processes through which regional actors build and implement such transition.
Wellness in a holistic perspective. At Karlstad University we see the whole person. This is true of both education and research in the field of health, care and social work and it contributes to the quality of the students’ professional training. Health, care and social work belong to a broad professional area in which the need for collaboration between different organisations is increasing. Also, there are more actors in this arena, in Sweden and abroad.
Open Educational Resources (OER) are teaching and learning materials that you may use freely, without needing to ask permission. In this workshop you will learn how to find and use OER and get advice on how to create new resources.Science Skills To Go is a workshop series at the library aimed at researchers at Karlstad University. You do not need to register for the workshop; you are welcome to participate anyway.
