- Towards new challenges. That was the opening words in the preface of my dissertation. I remember my time
as a graduate student as joyful and rewarding, and it is with a smile that I now continue my academic journey.
Growing up as a girl in particularly vulnerable areas - lived experiences, central societal actors, and societal work. The public discourse on what is referred to as vulnerable areas often revolves around issues of violence, shootings, and gang-related crime, primarily involving boys and young men.

Understanding Wider Research Impact
The precise definition of ‘wider research impact’ varies between funders, but, at its most basic level, it is the beneficial change which research creates in society beyond academia. This could be through the enhanced effectiveness of public services and policy, improving quality of life and health, or economic benefits.
“People’s experiences of different things and how it affects their behaviour have always interested me and are central within my research.”

The cocktail of man-made chemicals that we are exposed to daily is a health risk which current regulations and risk assessment overlook. This is the conclusion of the EU Horizon 2020 EDC-MixRisk project that is now being presented.
We are exposed to a large number of man-made chemicals in our everyday life. This creates combinations of chemical mixtures, to which we are subjected during our whole lifespan.

Improved Methods for Process and Quality Controls using Digital Tools
This project is a collaboration between three leading academic groups at Karlstad University (KaU) and five Swedish industrial partners.
The climate is changing. This poses severe risks to humans, societies, and ecosystems on which human well-being depends. Sweden is one of the countries described as a frontrunner in meeting the challenges of climate change. In addition to reducing human influence on the climate, these challenges also include climate change adaptation. However, even Sweden’s responses to these challenges are described as deficient in both rankings and research.
The Cultural Practice of Immigrant Filmmaking
(Swedish Research Council, 2013-2015)
Researchers: John Sundholm, Karlstad University, Lars Gustaf Andersson, Lund University.
Immigration to Sweden increased during the 1970s, and many of them were forced into exile. Some of them already were established filmmakers, others were amateurs, albeit with an interest in film. What united them was that they were all strangers in Sweden and that they tried to find their way in a new cultural situation.
