The current global pandemic has brought with it many challenges. Most obviously, the costs are seen in the lives lost and the health, emotional, social, and economic challenges that many people face around the globe due to the pandemic.
Rainey Lyons has joined Karlstad University and the mathematics department. Rainey has previously worked for University of Louisiana at Lafayette, USA, where he worked in a subfield of mathematical biology looking at structured population dynamics set in a space of Radon measures.
- I was changing the setting of which we do this modelling to a more abstract object than a function, says Rainey Lyons.

There are two degree pathways at master level: Master of Arts Degree 60 ECTS credits (one year) or 120 ECTS credits (two years). Both provide ample introduction to the basics of research through courses and academic writing opportunities. The 60-credit Master gives eligibility to doctoral studies at Karlstad University and at other universities in Sweden, while the 120-credit Master is a concluding professional education in comparative literature.
Critical welfare studies emanate from a social work perspective that highlights various forms of power structures and the consequences they entail. The starting point is constructivist, taking into account individual, positional, and structural factors. Welfare is understood in a broad sense, encompassing both social welfare services and the social insurance system, as well as having broader implications for the economy, labor market, and housing market.

The concept of intimacy has a long history in social science. However, it has in recent decades figured in discussions and research on changes in close relation-ships, the shifting boundary between public and private, and the associated shifts in gender relations.
SPEAKER: Hamza Chahed, Ph.D. student in computer science at Karlstad University Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) encompasses Ethernet amendments that enhance determinism in packet delivery for converged networks. Its primary objective is to provide mechanisms ensuring low and predictable transmission latency, coupled with high availability, for demanding applications like real-time streaming, automotive systems, and industrial control.

The latest PISA study shows that young people’s reading skills are declining in Sweden, and their motivation to read is also decreasing. The newly formed Expert Council for Reading will work to promote interest in reading and literature, both in schools and in society at large.

A professor at the university has been dismissed due to personal reasons. The background is that the person violated their obligations according to the employment contract by, among other things, refusing to perform certain tasks and being absent from work without approval from their immediate supervisor. By redistributing work tasks, students have not been affected.
It is very unusual that the Staff Disciplinary Committee has to make this type of decision.

The course Impact and the utilisation of research is offered by the Innovation Office Fyrklövern and is aimed at doctoral students from four universities. The course focuses on how research results can be used to benefit society, industry, and academia through non-academic strategies.
