In October CTF organized a workshop in Karlstad with focus on remote services in the manufacturing industry. IT-based services within manufacturing industry is becoming increasingly common which open up for new ways to interact, but introducing new technology is also a challenge and many questions arise. This was the starting point for the workshop where a number of companies from the manufacturing industry participated.

Together with 32 business schools from across the Nordic region, Karlstad Business School has submitted a joint statement to the accreditation body AACSB in response to its recent update to the guiding principles and interpretive guidance for AACSB’s Business Accreditation Standards. Education and research should always remain independent of political pressures and uphold the principle of academic freedom for all.
At Karlstad University the subject English can be studied at all university levels, and can be the main field of study for a Bachelor’s degree, a Master’ degree (60 or 120 ECTS credits) and a Doctor’s degree. English is also included or can be included in all the current teacher degrees.

This year’s International Conference on Information Systems Development (ISD) is held in Larnaca, Cyprus between September 6th – 8th. Doctoral programme in Business Administration at Karlstad University. At the Karlstad Business School, research in Business Administration is pursued both in multidisciplinary and disciplinary groups. The groups may involve researchers from Karlstad University and from other universities, in Sweden and abroad. Business Administration is a problem-oriented subject with different theoretical frameworks for different sub-disciplines.

Thomas J. Scheff, one of Karlstad University’s first honorary doctors, has passed away. The university is saddened by the news of his passing and honors his memory. Bengt Starrin, professor emeritus at Karlstad University, became acquainted with Thomas Scheff in the 1970s and remembers him fondly.

That was the topic for a recent conference that concluded the project called “Place-based digital experiences (PDU)”. Three places – the Glaskogen nature reserve, the Kristinehamn archipelago, and the town of Sunne, with a focus on culture and narrative – were studied in depth by Karlstad University researchers. The tourism industry can be challenging. Most tourist destination companies are small with limited resources.

We have now published our annual report for 2020. In the report, we summarize the past year and share highlights of our research and collaboration with partners from academia, business and the public sector. 2020 was a different and challenging year marked by the corona pandemic. Despite the challenges with restrictions and new routines, we managed to perform at a continuously high level and drive research forward.

Guaranteeing that information does not leak is one of the challenges of centralising logs. Researchers at Karlstad University have now developed a technical solution for transporting logs via cloud services in a simple, secure way. “There are different techniques for protecting logs when they are centralised. One could for example encrypt them, verify that nobody has changed them, and verify that the logs come from a specific device.
