A student enrolled in the course “Intercultural studies: race and whiteness in Sweden” at Karlstad University was reported for harassment and disruption of teaching. The disciplinary board has now decided that no disciplinary measure be taken. Two members of the board have dissenting opinions. The disciplinary board received two reports against the student. One report from a fellow student and one from a student association.

Their visit is based on the need to improve energy supply in Africa and to develop training on smart grids. Energy supply is an important sustainability and development issue in Africa.

The PhD programme in computer science at Karlstad University is reviewed to be of high quality in the evaluation. "During the last three years, our PhD programme has grown remarkably, just like other aspects of our activities.
The psychology faculty have developed a way of working to collaborate with companies, organizations, and public actors. The foundation is a common area of interest and a mutual exchange of knowledge and experience. Each year, Karlstad University chooses, after a nomination period, two former students who have used their education inspirationally, have embarked on exiting careers and are good role models for the university’s current students, as Alumni of the Year. The Alumni of the Year for 2017 are Marie Fossum Strannegård and Jörgen Svensson. Marie Fossum Strannegård obtained a Bachelor’s degree with a major in Information Systems from Karlstad University in 1995.

The Ozlab system has been used for many years by Karlstad University researchers when exploring interface concepts and paradigms for computer applications. Thanks to the incorporation of the Wizard of Oz technique researchers could simulate functionality without spending time or resources on programming. Though, as time went by, our tool needed updating. Therefore, the Ozlab system is now being redeveloped towards a web-based system.

New this year is the option to apply for an open genre as an alternative to our traditional genre areas for main instruments in both the music teacher program and the one-year course Music 60 credits.
