Apply to Our Music Teacher Program with Open Genre
2025-02-19Are you curious about our music teacher education? The application period for the autumn semester 2025 is approaching. New this year is the option to apply for an open genre as an alternative to our traditional genre areas for main instruments in both the music teacher program and the one-year course Music 60 credits.
The open genre is aimed at those who play music in a genre outside the areas of folk music, classical music, or jazz. This option is suitable for those who may have their roots in several different genres or have not yet found which genre area suits them.
Kicki Liljedahl, the program director for the music teacher program, is enthusiastic about offering broader opportunities to apply for the program.
"Even today, our genre areas are broad and collaborate with each other in various projects, but we want to open up more for those who do not recognize themselves in the traditional genre names and descriptions. We look forward to welcoming those who apply to us and to experiencing their musical expressions, regardless of which direction they choose."
What does this mean for those applying to our programs?
”Those applying to the music teacher program or Music 60 credits in the open genre should submit video recordings just like applicants to our other genres, and complete the other required tests. They will also be invited to an individual Zoom meeting, where we will discuss their direction to see the possibilities for arrangements with teachers, ensembles, and methodology.”
Why should one choose to study to become a music teacher at Ingesund?
“If you study in our music teacher program, you will have many opportunities to train for your role as a teacher in practice – a trained music teacher from Ingesund is in demand in several fields in the job market. You will have your main instrument throughout all semesters and play in various ensembles and projects. You will also have a lot of methodology with associated practice teaching on the schedule, which makes you well-prepared for the profession – both for primary school, high school, and music and cultural schools.”
Finally, would you like to tell us a bit more about the Music 60 credits course?
“Music 60 credits is the course for those who want to study music at a higher level for one academic year. The idea is that you, as a student, should have the opportunity to play as much as possible full-time, both solo and in various ensembles, study music theory, and complement with various individual choices. A year that can be seen as preparation for later applying to one of our programs or another higher education in music.”
