Seke Chainda, a student in the Biology Master's Program at Karlstad University, has been named Global Swede of 2019. On May 21 he was celebrated, together with other Global Swede students, at a ceremony at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. On May 21 the distinction Global Swede was conferred on twenty-six international top students from Swedish institutions of higher education.

CRE8® is a model for innovation-challenge events, developed by the Grants and Innovation Office at Karlstad University. A public or private organization provides a real-world operational challenge to which teams of students try to find solutions. Since it was first introduced in 2017, the CRE8® model has become a very successful concept. With funding from Erasmus+, Karlstad University is now training facilitators to run CRE8® events around Europe.

Educational planning in Ladok

From 5 May, Karlstad University will be using a new system for educational planning. The administration of study programmes will transfer to Ladok and the new system “Kompletterande utbildningsadministration”, KUA (Supplementary educational administration).

SweDigArch has been awarded funding from the Swedish Research Council to create a national infrastructure for digital archaeology. The new infrastructure is a collaborative venture between six Swedish universities, the National Heritage Board and National Historical Museums. SweDigArch is a unique initiative that will link data from research, archaeological excavations and digitized museum collections.

InfoCert are conducting user evaluations on their LegalMail pilot demonstrator within the project, while Karlstad University develops and tests user interfaces for the general CREDENTIAL Wallet functions.

Current initiatives in intersectionality theory relating to indigenous studies (Olsen 2018) as well as ethnic studies (Carlsson 2020) argue that the starting point for such intersectional approaches are ‘the margins rather than the centre’ (Olsen 2018). This is especially important progress in the Nordic context for furthering a decolonial research agenda.
