ISE stands for "Improving value creation through service education" and is a project where the Service Research Center (CTF) at Karlstad University, in collaboration with companies and organisations develop and offer tailored, flexible courses at the advanced level aimed at professionals.
ISE is funded by the Knowledge Foundation between 2020-2025.

Finn Nilson is a professor in Risk Management at Karlstad University, Head of Subject in Risk and Environmental Studies, and director of the Centre for Societal Risk Research. In his own research, he often assumes the individual’s perspective and believes that it is important to view crises from a holistic perspective.

Ali Mohammadi has been involved in research on sustainability assessment of bio-based systems since he began his PhD. During his doctoral project at the University of New England in Australia, he studied economic and environmental impacts of biochar and bioenergy production from agricultural biomass.

Research at Karlstad University shows that sludge and ashes as paper mill residues can be used as effective fertiliser. This involves biochar, that is, carbon from organic material returned to the forest and thus closing the cycle.

Many businesses use cloud services to analyse high volumes of data, but this means that businesses lose control of data and that privacy cannot be safeguarded. A European innovation project involving researchers from Karlstad University will create a new platform for enhancing privacy in data analysis.

Bridget Kane will act as stand in for the lecture position in HCI during January-August 2016. She earned her doctor’s degree at Trinity College, Dublin, on a dissertation entitled ”An analysis of the dynamics of multidisciplinary medical team meetings and the use of communication technology”.
As the project period approaches its end, it´s time to compile all documentation in accordance with the funder´s guidelines. Most funders require a final report that describes, for example, the achieved research results in relation to the project´s goals and commitments. The final financial report is prepared in collaboration with the financial officer.

The idea that scientific discovery and technical invention can work in synergy is evoked by a number of major organisations and some great scientific ventures. For instance, the discovery of the transistor by Shockley, Bardeen, and Brattain at Bell Labs (Nobel Prize, 1956) suggests that discovery and invention can occur simultaneously.
