The first Nordic conference for PhD supervisors has now been held at Karlstad University. With a large turnout from 13 countries and 42 universities, one might wonder how big the Nordic region is, or as expressed by one of the participants, “The Nordic countries have grown in numbers”.
– It has been an intense but very rewarding few days, says Roger Renström, docent in computer science and organiser of the conference.

The PilotSTEP project was started in the fall of 2017 as a result of our participation in iSTEP – a one week institute that convenes teams of teacher educators from around the world to observe teacher education at Stanford.
Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) is considered one of the most observed university rankings in the world. Media and Communication Studies at Karlstad University received an impressive ranking position in the span 76–100.
This type of list serves as a source for prospective students and people applying for jobs at universities.

Having grown up near Karlstad University, Yvonne Liljekvist can practically see all the way “home” from her 5th-floor office in house 21. So it was only natural to get her bachelor’s degree in education with a specialisation in mathematics, science and technology in her hometown.
On 1 January Karlstad University launched three research and development projects as part of Academy for Smart Specialisation, a partnership between the university and Region Värmland aiming to renew regional industry and strengthen research.

Cormac McCarthy, author of novels such as Blood Meridian, Cities of the Plain, and The Road, is the subject of a new dissertation from Karlstad University. Fredrik Svensson highlights neglected aspects of a decades-long authorship that has produced a considerable number of novels, plays, and screenplays.
McCarthy’s oeuvre spans over five decades, from the 1960s to the early 2000s, and includes ten novels.

Daring requires a great deal of curiosity and courage, and being wise within academia demands that you are constantly prepared to be critically examined. Lennart Käll is the chair of Sveriges Radio (Swedish Broadcasting), board member of SJ (Swedish Rail), Grönklittsgruppen, Länsförsäkringar, Grant Thornton and previously chief executive to multiple big companies, latest Svenska Spel. Researchers at CTF, Service Research Center at Karlstad University, will, within an Interreg Consortium, analyze travel services from a traveler's perspective. The project is funded by the EU regional development fund Interreg Baltic Sea Region.

From Monday 16 June to Saturday 30 August, the university has summer opening hours. The entrances are mainly locked. Staff and students enter with a card and code. Kau City is closed for the summer from Monday 9 June.
