Psychology

What makes us think, feel, and act the way we do? The psychology program at Karlstad University provides you with the tools to understand the whole person – from the brain’s complex functions to how we interact with others in everyday life, at the workplace, and in society. Here, we explore everything from an individual's inner life to the dynamics of groups and organizations.

Why study psychology?

Psychological knowledge is invaluable in any context where people are at the center. Whether you want to work in healthcare, education, economics, sales, media, advertising, HR, or research, psychology provides insights that make a difference. Additionally, you gain tools that enrich your personal life – understanding yourself and others better is a lifelong asset.

How can you study with us?

We offer a wide range of courses at both undergraduate and advanced levels. You can choose between full-time and part-time study, attend classes on campus in Karlstad, or study remotely – we have options to suit you.

  • Standalone courses can be combined to create your own degree (associate, bachelor's, or master's) or to complement other education.

  • For those who wish to deepen their knowledge, we offer a master’s program in psychology, where you develop advanced skills for research and professional life.

  • Do you dream of becoming a licensed psychologist? With us, you can enroll in the five-year psychology program, a professional education that prepares you for a meaningful and challenging career.

Whichever path you choose, you are warmly welcome to the psychology department at Karlstad University – where curiosity meets science.

Listen to students share their experiences about the psychology program here.
