We are looking for students who want to participate as a marshal. At the Academic Feast, the Marshal is invited to attend the following dinner and will be seated among the guests if possible in connection with each subject.
The former chairman of the choir CMB, Mattias Norén, has passed away. Therefore, Karlstad University flags are flying at half-mast today, Monday, May 26. Our thoughts go out to Mattias Norén's closest and all affected choir friends. A memorial service will be held today, Monday, May 26 in the Aula Magna at 6:00 p.m.
Mattias Norén joined the choire when he was studying to be a teacher at the then University College of Karlstad, in the mid-1990s.

Elin Skau, why did you choose Karlstad Business School?
- I chose it both because I come from Värmland but also because I heard very good things about the school and student life. The Business School has a super nice campus with good connections to the city centre.
What expectations did you have for the Human resource management and working life program - and were they met?
- I had the expectation of gaining a greater and broader understanding of working life and organizations.

The world needs more efficient energy systems based on renewable raw material, an equation not easily solved. At Karlstad University, research and education are in progress to find sustainable energy systems, for instance, through a project in which pellets replace charcoal in cooking solutions in Zambia, because cooking with charcoal as fuel leads to extensive deforestation as well as health hazards.

Ongoing dissertation projects in History and externally funded research projects are described very briefly below. In addition, lecturers conduct their own research within the framework of their own professional development. The research conducted within the subject is primarily focused on the theme of region building and subject education.
International mobility enables valuable collaboration for researchers from Karlstad University and UMONS, the University of Mons in Belgium. The collaboration promotes research in materials science through exchange of knowledge on methods for studying material properties at the nanoscale.

The notion of interculturality is often said to have been central in teacher education and training in Europe and other parts of the world over the past 30 years. It is mostly through the concept of intercultural competence that interculturality has been constructed and problematized for both (student) teachers and students.
Karlstad University’s vice-chancellor, Jerker Moodysson, has been appointed as a board member of the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR) for the next three years.
– I’m looking forward to working on development issues related to higher education in a new context for me, says Jerker Moodysson.
– Among other things, UHR is responsible for coordinating admissions, internationalisation and digital services. They also work with information and analyses.

The differences between the school and the workplace as learning arenas are often emphasised in discussions about vocational education. Research in this area has highlighted a range of approaches that can bridge this gap and provide a more complete learning experience for students.
Research in chemistry education is concerned with teaching and learning chemistry. Chemistry education is a part of SMEER (Science Mathematics Engineering Education Research, - www.kau.se/SMEER), where two of the chemistry education staff are representatives in the scientific board.
Lamps that are switched on and off via an app, garbage cans that signal when it is time to be emptied and children who are tracked via watches. These are all examples of smart units gaining more ground in our everyday lives. Participants in the SNITS lunch on 6 November learned more about the Internet of Things and the technology behind it.
The Internet of Things refers to devices that are not traditionally networked, such as watches, toys and machines.
