Fifteen years ago, open source developers were considered geeky. Today, on the contrary, these are the most sought after developers. Redpill Linpro, a company only working with products based on open source code, hosted the last SNITS lunch of the year on 5 December, with the theme “Kickstarting your career with open source”. Software developed from source code that is open to everyone to use, change, develop and distribute is known as open source.

The strategic review of the university’s degree programmes continues. Among other things, it will be a standing item on the agenda at this year’s four dialogues where the management teams of the teacher education board and the faculties meet with the vice-chancellor. The vice-chancellor has approved a planned continuation of the education review that was initiated in the spring of 2023.

Part of Information Systems visited Nursing Science and their Clinical Centre. On Wednesday the 8th of June, Malin Wik, John Sören Pettersson, Bridget Kane and Henrik Andersson visited Nursing Science and their Clinical Centre. Anders Sidenblad, Nursing teacher and doctoral student at IMH at Linköpings university, hosted a demonstration of their training mannequin. The Clinical Centre trains students in clinical decision making using a realistic mannequin.

Since 2016, a partnership, called MIRAI, has been in operation between Swedish and Japanese universities. Next year marks the start of a new period for the MIRAI partnership with more Swedish and Japanese universities involved in research, education and innovation collaboration.

University flags at half-mast

The former chairman of the choir CMB, Mattias Norén, has passed away. Therefore, Karlstad University flags are flying at half-mast today, Monday, May 26. Our thoughts go out to Mattias Norén's closest and all affected choir friends. A memorial service will be held today, Monday, May 26 in the Aula Magna at 6:00 p.m. Mattias Norén joined the choire when he was studying to be a teacher at the then University College of Karlstad, in the mid-1990s.

STAFF EXCHANGEDoctoral students can apply for student exchange and practical placement within Erasmus+, and if they teach they can do teaching assignments in Erasmus+ as long as they fulfil the criteria for the programme. For third-cycle study, the criteria stipulate full-time study at the third-cycle level at an international institution and for the course of study to be part of a Karlstad University degree. Research is not included, but work to prepare your thesis is.
