The PilotSTEP project was started in the fall of 2017 as a result of our participation in iSTEP – a one week institute that convenes teams of teacher educators from around the world to observe teacher education at Stanford.

We develop our education programmes to keep pace with educational revisions and are pleased with the good reputation that teacher education at Karlstad University has always enjoyed.
Schools and preschools in Sweden are culturally diverse arenas, with more than a quarter of children in Sweden having immigrant backgrounds (Statistiska Centralbyrån, 2017). The Swedish preschool curriculum acknowledges the importance of responsivity to culturally and linguistically diverse children and families. Thus, graduate teachers need to be equipped to work children and families from ethnically and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
Karlstad University has a collaboration with a dwelling company called KBAB.

The Research Group for Culture Studies, KuFo, invites interested researchers to take part, with or without presentation, in the workshop Satire as Perspective on the Contemporary.
The workshop will take place on Wednesday 17 October 2018, 10.15-17.30, in Minerva, Building 12, at Karlstad University, Karlstad, Sweden.
The workshop is interdisciplinary, and is intended for researchers who engage with satire from different perspectives.

Cormac McCarthy, author of novels such as Blood Meridian, Cities of the Plain, and The Road, is the subject of a new dissertation from Karlstad University. Fredrik Svensson highlights neglected aspects of a decades-long authorship that has produced a considerable number of novels, plays, and screenplays.
McCarthy’s oeuvre spans over five decades, from the 1960s to the early 2000s, and includes ten novels.

At Karlstad University, there is research on polymer solar cells and how these can be made more stable and effective. Recently, a doctoral thesis was presented on how solar cell materials and functions are affected by contact with air and light.

Fredrik Wikström is a newly appointed professor of Energy and Environmental Technology. He conducts research on how packaging can contribute to a sustainable development where less food is wasted. In recent years, this research has been praised and received attention in the media.
Fredrik Wikström holds a Degree of Bachelor of Science in Physics at Uppsala University and received his PhD in Systems Ecology from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences.

To make our society more sustainable, we need to reduce the carbon footprint of scalable products. This means that it is not enough to invent a new “green” technology. We also need to create a market for it, know how to expand this market, help users of green technology and other important stakeholders to see the environmental, financial and societal benefits in this new market.

Organized uncertainty in elderly care: About quality, conditions for resistance, and staff's willingness to stayWe face a significant social policy challenge as the demand for elderly care is expected to increase sharply, while there is a shortage of trained workforce in elderly care. Girls in homelessness. Living conditions, senses of belonging and senses of home The aim of the project is to contribute knowledge about girls' own experiences of living in homelessness, through an ethnographic study with 15-24-year-old girls, with focus on their living conditions, and senses of belonging and home.
The need for increased cyber security is growing day by day. As a response, the Swedish government is investing a total of SEK 100 million over the next few years in Cybercampus Sweden, which has now opened with an inauguration at KTH. The purpose behind the investment is to strengthen both skills supply and research in cyber security.
