Anna-Britt Coe was born in Massachusetts, USA, to a Swedish mother and an American father. She has lived in Washington DC, Lima in Peru and Umeå/Nordmaling and studied sociology at undergraduate and postgraduate level at American University, Washington DC, and completed her PhD at Umeå University.

The project 'Language use in Swedish and English' investigates how students on the autism spectrum (ASD) use their first and second language.
The project investigates the use of Swedish and English of persons with ASD.
On 10 December, the third Mathematics Meets Industry Day (MIMM®) was arranged at Karlstad University. Representatives from Kongsberg, Region Värmland, and Uddeholm participated, and together with upper secondary school students, university students, and researchers they tried to find mathematical solutions for previously unsolved problems.

On December 4, high school students, university students, doctoral candidates, senior researchers, and company representatives gathered at Karlstad University to work together in teams on current mathematical challenges presented by businesses during the The Mathematics Meets Industry Day (MiMM Day).
Rottneros, Tesa, Blue Ocean Closures, and Region Värmland presented real-world problems, seeking sustainable solutions with the participants' help.

Experts who are open to change view ideas as opportunities and approach idea screening as a generative process, while conservative experts are more reserved in their idea screening activities. These are the findings of a new study where researchers at CTF, Service Research Center at Karlstad University, have examined how a person’s sense of identity influences the way in which they screen early ideas for innovation projects.

On May 27, computer science students presented their theses to an open audience that included companies, faculty, and fellow students.
The new format, where students give presentations of their theses, was introduced under the name EPiCS. It featured over 30 presentations held in three parallel sessions. The day concluded with a dinner in Building 21 in the evening.
One of the presentations was given by students Rasmus Melin and Simon Andersson.

Nanna Fyhrquist was born and raised in Helsinki, Finland. Her academic journey began at the University of Helsinki, where she studied biology and later earned her PhD in 1999.
She went on to be appointed as a docent in physiology and neuroscience at the same university.
Linking instruction to student achievement
The purpose of this project is to investigate the impact of different instructional strategies on student learning in secondary school. Student achievement data in mathematics and reading is combined with data from classroom video observations and student questionnaires. The study replicates a study that is currently being conducted in Norway and Finland.
Jorryt van Bommel was born and raised in the Netherlands, where she also graduated as a teacher in mathematics in 1997. After moving to Sweden in 1999, she began work as a teacher educator at Karlstad University in the autumn of 2000, and later started her PhD studies in 2005.

Part of the examination task at the course “Advanced service management” at Karlstad Business School is making a poster on your work, like the ones at research conferences. This is a way for the students to show their knowledge- and a way to use research methods in this master's programme.
As previously, all posters were put on display all around the Business school, building 11.
Tobias Hübinette has a Ph.D in Korean Studies, and is Associate Professor in Intercultural Education and primarily teaches Intercultural Studies and Swedish as a Second Language, as well as Gender Studies and Comparative literature.
Hübinette’s research revolves around Swedish critical race- and whiteness studies, as well as adoption, migration, minorities, Korea, Asians and Swedishness. He has, for instance, published the book "Att skriva om svenskheten.
The autumn semester at Karlstad University starts on 30 August. New students at study programmes, where the student groups are not too large, are prioritised to start the semester on campus.
International students will also be taught on campus.

The climate movement groups Fridays for Future and Extinction Rebellion aim for the same goal while using different methods. Sol Agin, who recently completed her PhD in media and communication studies, has focused her research on their way of communicating about an extremely complicated subject.
When Swedish people speak up on behalf of the environment, they prefer to do so in the form of peaceful protests inspired by Greta Thunberg’s work with Fridays for Future.
