Finding accommodation as a student can be challenging, but in Karlstad, the situation is much better than in many other university cities in Sweden. According to the 2025 housing report by the Swedish National Union of Students (SFS), Karlstad offers the highest possible level of security for student housing. As a new student, you can expect to receive a housing offer within one month. Karlstad University offers support to admitted students in the housing process.

Important Information 

Before applying for accommodation in Sweden, please note the following: 

  1. Most rental apartments in Sweden are rented unfurnished. You should therefore be prepared to arrange your own furniture and household items. 

  2. Photographs used in apartment listings may be illustrative and sometimes show furnished apartments. This does not necessarily mean that the apartment is rented furnished. Always read the listing description and rental agreement carefully to verify what is included. 

  3. Rental contracts typically begin either on the first day of the month or mid-month. 

  4. Rent in Sweden is generally paid in advance, meaning that the first month's rent must be paid before moving in. 

  5. Carefully review all terms and conditions of the rental agreement before signing.

Egeryds 

Egeryds offers student apartments, including a limited number of fully furnished units. 

When contacting Egeryds, please include: 

  • A copy of your admission letter confirming that you are an incoming programme student. 

  • A copy of your passport.

  • Available apartments are currently single units of approximately 21 m².  

     

Stiftelsen Karlstadshus 

Stiftelsen Karlstadshus offers student apartments in a variety of sizes. Availability is limited and housing is allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. 

Please note: 

  • Not all available apartments are advertised on the website. 

  • We strongly recommend contacting the housing provider directly as early as possible. 

  • Apartments are rented unfurnished. 

When contacting Stiftelsen Karlstadshus, please include a copy of your admission letter confirming your status as an incoming programme student.

HomeQ 

HomeQ is a housing platform where multiple landlords advertise rental properties. Apartments vary in size, rental cost, and lease conditions.

  • Most apartments are rented unfurnished. 

  • A biometric passport is required to create an account and apply. 

  • Always review the terms and conditions of each listing carefully, including any restrictions regarding pets, smoking, or other regulations.
