Bio-based resources from well managed forests play important roles in transition to a sustainable society. In WoodPro, the research team will explore new processing chains that convert forest residues to high-value industrial chemicals and soil amendment products. - WoodPro is an EU cooperation in form of a consortium with three sub-projects hosted in Karlstad University, the Natural Resources Institute in Finland (LUKE) and the University of Eastern Finland (UEF).

CTF’s efforts to develop groundbreaking theoretical knowledge has resulted in multidisciplinary research themes: Service Innovation, Service Management, and Service Experience. Based on these themes CTF is now developing a crosscutting theme on Transformative Service Research, TSR. It is a relatively new field in service research and is increasingly getting more attention in academia.

Axel Isberg, 19 years old, a student at the Elite Sports University, Karlstad University, recently became the European champion in equipped powerlifting at the Junior European Championships in Luxembourg. This marks the third time he has achieved this feat, having also won gold medals at the European Championships in 2022 and 2021. In total, he lifted nearly a ton and set junior records in three events.

Jonas Axelsson, Senior Lecturer in working life science at Karlstad Business School, and Markus Arvidson, Senior Lecturer in sociology at Karlstad University, have a long-term interest in matters of loyalty. There will be a national minute of silence on Tuesday 11 February in honour of the victims of the tragedy in Örebro. Karlstad University will participate. The initiative of a national minute of silence was declared by the Swedish government, who also urge that flags be flown at half-mast from 09.00 until the moment of silence has ended. – 4 February will forever mark a dark day in Swedish history.

6 million SEK in programme support for CFBUPH The Centre for Research on Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CFBUPH) has been granted 6 million SEK in programme support from the FAS (The Swedish Council for Working Life and Social Research) to study the impacts of changed living conditions on child and adolescent mental health. Out of a total of 21 applications in the area of Children's and young people's early life conditions, 3 were approved.

Student achievement data in mathematics and reading is combined with data from classroom video observations and student questionnaires. At the department of Chemical Engineering, Karlstad University, we have a strong research environment around forest products and processes. We are performing research of how pulp and paper should be manufactured and of how the paper should be coated and printed. About 10 doctoral students are enrolled in our extensive postgraduate programme, half of them being employed directly by the industry.
