CRE8® is a model for innovation-challenge events, developed by the Grants and Innovation Office at Karlstad University. A public or private organization provides a real-world operational challenge to which teams of students try to find solutions. Since it was first introduced in 2017, the CRE8® model has become a very successful concept. With funding from Erasmus+, Karlstad University is now training facilitators to run CRE8® events around Europe.

The paper “Firm-brand community value co-creation as alignment of practices” by Per Skålen, CTF, Stefano Pace, Kedge Business School, and Bernard Cova, Kedge Business School, published in European Journal of Marketing (2015) Vol 49 3 E has been selected by the journal’s editorial team as a Highly Commended Paper in the 2016 Emerald Literati Network Awards for Excellence. Runa Skyrud, is the project leader of Tretorget AS. Tretorget runs development projects that are rooted in companies' strategies and needs, and deliver measurable results. They have long experience with establishing business networks and clusters and have been involved in several cross-cluster projects. The company was established in 2001 and is now owned by some of the employees.

Two projects led by researchers at Karlstad University have through MIRAI been granted seed funding, which will provide our researchers with opportunities for international collaboration and increased mobility. MIRAI, with support from STINT, announced funding to support research collaborations between the member universities in Japan and Sweden. The aim is to develop new and existing collaborations through innovative projects.

The Grants and Innovation Office (GIO) has access to the VFT funding programme through its involvement with the innovation office Fyrklövern. On the basis of a competitive application, the university receives an annual grant from this Vinnova programme. This funding can be used to verify innovative ideas that might benefit the world in the form of new businesses, licensing, and so forth. It cannot be used to finance research.
