"Making a Difference" was the theme of the Association for Consumer Research North American Conference that was held October 3-6 in Chicago, USA. The conference had about 1500 participants, including several world-leading researcher in consumer behavior. CTF was represented by researchers Anders Gustafsson and Tobias Otterbring.

The programme has been redesigned with two semesters of in-depth study in an elective subject and with a clearer focus on cultural policy and conservation. Why?
The Culture, Policy and Management Programme is based on Cultural Studies generally, with a focus on cultural policy and cultural heritage. Two semesters are devoted to in-depth study of a field, namely Film Studies, History, History of Ideas, Art History and Visual Studies or Political Science.
Peter Wikström, docent in English at Karlstad University, is working together with Geomedia to develop project applications in collaboration with Embracer Games Archive in Karlstad.
– The project focuses on material objects related to historical video games, such as covers, packaging, manuals and the design of discs and cartridges.
– The approach we are using in the research project is multimodal discourse analysis, says Peter Wikström.

Practical placements form an important part of the Master of Science in Psychology Programme. Students are out on their practical placements during semester 6 for 14 weeks.
Practical placements are hosted by public or private organisations employing psychologists. All psychology students will be supervised by a licenced psychologist during their practical placements and the university offers practical and pedagogical support to supervisors.

STAFF EXCHANGEDoctoral students can apply for student exchange and practical placement within Erasmus+, and if they teach they can do teaching assignments in Erasmus+ as long as they fulfil the criteria for the programme. For third-cycle study, the criteria stipulate full-time study at the third-cycle level at an international institution and for the course of study to be part of a Karlstad University degree. Research is not included, but work to prepare your thesis is.

The latest PISA study shows that young people’s reading skills are declining in Sweden, and their motivation to read is also decreasing. The newly formed Expert Council for Reading will work to promote interest in reading and literature, both in schools and in society at large.
